This graph but with fediverse apps?

I found this funny flow chart about traditional social media. I am wondering if there is a info graphic like this but with social media of the fediverse. If this does not exist, can someone create it?

Welp, done it

I'm not sure about all of it and had to remove the racist/sexist stuff, just because I don't know any software on the fediverse with controversies like this...

Feel free to give feedback and if you think I should change something, I'll post it later on this community !

From top to bottom, left to right :

Friendica GNUSocial / Mastodon Vernissage Wordpress ? Writefreely ? Pixelfed Loops Jlai.lu (French lemmy instance) / Lemmy (with the lemmy.world logo because it's more colorful than the plain lemmy logo)

Vernissage has rebranded into Impressia fyi

Are you sure about that?

  • It's still Vernissage on Github
  • Looking up impressia just returns a pixelfed client by that name and nothing related to vernissage
  • Didn't see any PRs waiting to be merged either
3

Oh wait I actually don’t know what vernissage is! I thought it was just that Pixelfed client. Thanks for correcting me

This must be original content, the pixels are still shiny and crisp out of gimp

Isn't that just a pixelfed app? I think Vernissage changed its name recently. Nowadays it's like Impressia or something like that.

Interesting. That exact same logo was used by the app that changed its name to Impressia. So, maybe it started as one thing, but later evolved to what it is now. A confusing journey really.

most of pleroma instances are packed with nazis, go figure

also nostr is mostly altright and cryptobros (but it's not activitypub)

7

Nostr is a really good protocol, but its impossible to stop spam in and its full of cryptobros and people who were too extreme for twitter.

4

I’m not sure about all of it and had to remove the racist/sexist stuff, just because I don’t know any software on the fediverse with controversies like this…

Soapbox, a fork of Pleroma, is made by a TERF who previously worked for Gab.

6

What about the Marxist-Leninist, communist, socialist, anti-capitalist crowd? I don't know if they hang around on other platforms, but they certainly are present here on Lemmy.

Also, what about sexual and gender minorities? I get the feeling that there are a lot of queer people on Mastodon. Maybe that could be another selection criteria.

Like this:

Are you queer? -> Mastodon

Are you a Marxist? -> Lemmy

Unfortunately Reddit has plenty of racists these days. Like I’d say the average redditor is somewhat racist now. Which wasn’t the case 5 years ago.

sh.itjust.works

They were more subtle about it but they've been there from the start. Now they're just more vocal.

19

Do not mistake the vocal minority for the majority these assholes use bots and try to spread their agenda Every fucking place they go.

10

Reddit is definitely for opinionated people that can't keep their mouth shut. And has quite a few bigots too. So this chart is unrealistically complimentary of redditors - I'm guessing you found it on reddit, which explains the judgemental opinion about TikTok and Insta.

20

The original image seems related to Westernsphere social media huh

Facebook in my region (Southeast Asia) is still filled with Gen Z, wirh various niche groups that often have more than 100K members. From anime meme to satirical anti-corruption group. Or fried chicken seller group and book barter for your small city.

I was active moderating on one local music group band on FB with 250K members.

I hope I can change Facebook for fediverse, but there's still no Facebook group alternative and actual active community on fediverse to make it happen.

"Got a Job?" for LinkedIn? The amount of desperate unemployed people there sharing yet another online certificate they've completed makes me think otherwise. 😬

14

Unemployed people use LinkedIn mostly for the job board. The employed people use LinkedIn for the social media features, and oh boy

3

This reminded me Threads exists. Huh, didn't know it was still around honestly

12

line continues after Reddit

"Do you care that anyone you speak to might be Ai?"

Yes - Lemmy

No - Line does a loop and goes back to Reddit

11
lemm.ee

No one on LinkedIn has a real job, they're all just bragging about being self-employed or paid to post there to "generate positive public opinion on 50 hour work weeks".

10

I have a job. I use LinkedIn to follow my friends and that's it. I don't post or follow idiots.

2

Honestly at this point I might go back to 9gag, like I just wanna scroll through funny memes

7

9gag. A site that was funny in the past.

Nowadays it is full of reposting bots and pro russia, anti lgbt, racist and other content that are not good for the mental wellbeing.

16

Just slap the fediverse in place of the 'please stay off social media' rectangle.

Isn't Pinterest just Instagram for food and knickknacks? I never used either....

2

It is pucture-based, but the is more of grouping images clipped from websites (you can upload your own images, too).

Pinterest is mostly useful for saving images from the web, so you can keep all images from related topics together and have a handy backup too.

I mostly use it for saving all the cute turtle photos I found.

2

This is just somebody trying to throw judgemental insults at a stereotype

Not really content you should be minding

4

So, I don't know what 3/4's of those pictographs on the chart mean. Am I in the wrong place?

3

Isn’t instagram the same shit as Facebook in another container?

Both products of the same company but they seem like quite different experiences and userbases to me. Anecdotally, facebook is where my dad sends his friends things he found funny and instagram is where my brother posts pictures of his nights out

10

This. They are run quite separately (even though cross posting is possible). IG is on a roll currently as the legal status of Tiktok is shaky in the US, and Instagram managed to replicate the majority of features.

2

No, they are different pieces of software connected to different databases. They are run by the same company, but my understanding is Instagram is mostly about photos while Facebook has a wider variety of purposes (none of it it serves very well), eg microblogging, discussion groups, company pages, and others too.

2

Guess I'm a show off... But even if I just use ig to pm memes to friends and never post anything?

2

I ended on reddit, damn, but for 2 years I just lurk from time to time, never vote/comment/post
