So over the weekend Mr P and I formally broke up. First there was an argument where a ramekin was thrown, then a calming down and proper conversation. We've been in separate bedrooms for years so not much is really changing. He initially asked me to leave. I said no, I've been paying rent for 13½ years to the owner of the property who isn't you. Neither of us can afford to move anywhere or pay market rent. Also with him on the dole, can't afford to pay for all car related expenses, which is needed with the children. I said I'm still happy to pay that stuff and I think he saw that it was a pretty good deal actually and he's best to eat humble pie and stick with it. It's in my interests for him to have a car to do child/school related things whilst I'm at work, and I'm happy to contribute to that. I told him (not for the first time) that he's welcome to see other people as long as discretion is exercised regarding the children. Since then things have been really civil between us. Let's see how it goes.

Thankyou, I'm hopeful that we can work our way through the "not working out" situation as peaceably as possible. Especially for Elder Minipeeler, who at first seemed pretty bummed out but is gradually realising that nothing is radically different.

I think it's better to separate and be honest with kids that things change in people's lives, than to keep pretending. The social lies wear on kids, they're still developing and things subtly being wrong fucks them up I reckon. Do you guys have support networks where one of you could take off for a weekend leaving the other alone from time to time? Go stay with a parent or friend occasionally just to get/give each other some space?

for reals, I grew up in a fighting house and the goddamn divorce (and this was in the 1980's, so social stigma wahoo) was a goddamn relief.

I was five at the time.

8

My mum tossed my piece of shit dad when I was 18 months old. She came home late from work to an empty house, with me alone crying for however long.

5

Mr P has rural people he can stay with if needed. I don't want to leave the kids just at the moment. Also Mr P often spends the whole evening outside in his mancave smoking and watching movies so we're not exactly in each other's pockets as it is.

It sucks that it was needed, but I trust that this will be the start of a happier life for you and the mini peelers

9

Remember to take care of yourself! It's easy to get caught up in the kids, and Mr P, and just all the stress and difficult conversation, and you forget to care for yourself too! Treat yourself! Be it a cafe coffee, or a luxurious bath/shower, read your fave book/listen to your fav song, etc

Breaking up is incrediblely hard on the soul, especially if you still have to live together, but you are strong, kind, clever, and AMAZING!

YOU GOT THIS HOT STUFF!! 💜💜💜

It sucks that things worked out that way, but I'm glad he was able to be civil about it afterward and it seems like you'll be able to make things work how they are for the moment.

Man , bringing home other people sounds super awkward. But congrats for finally setting boundaries

I'm so sorry to hear.

I hope you'll be able to work through it all in the best way possible for you and your family.

Thats tough stuff Peeler, but you are certainly not alone in your feelings or situation. Hoping for a sense of peace and calm for you and your Mini Peelers.

5

So sorry to hear, such a difficult life event. Hopefully things can continue as amicably as possible, and when the dust settles the healing begins. It can take time, let your emotions take their course.

2

Best of luck with it, I hope everything stays civil. It’s good to know he has relatives he can stay with if needed.

Damn this housing market makes life awkward.

2

Night walk. Hambam ended up rolling in some other dog's shit. Needed bath.

I was not very popular at first but he ended up accepting his fate.

Getting that dog into the bath wasn't very easy.

Woop there it is

Rent increase notice received. I had a feeling it was coming, as the places near me with a similar floorplan were increasing. I almost can't be mad tho, it's still $50pw under the comparable places lol!

Sent a reluctant message to the apartment using one of my two car parks, about starting to charge for it. I won't charge them if I find a job though, and what I'm asking per month is $150 less than other car parks around here too so 💀🤷🏼‍♀️

I walked out of work at lunch yesterday. My boss was understanding about it - he is…aware of my week! - but I’m now in the grey area where I’m sort of waiting on funerals.

First one of the two is tomorrow

There are more than a handful of nonnas out there (all of them) that think you haven't eaten enough.

8

I’ll be joining you on Friday….then we’ll take over the world!

We'll be spending the long weekend together anyway.

The last time the kid made me something with love, I had to eat it.

I've decided I need a detailed and comprehensive moving plan to make sure everything goes smoothly for my relocation. After a lot of research and considerable thought, here is what I have come up with:

Step 1: Put everything in boxes
Step 2: Move boxes to new house
Step 3: Unpack all the boxes

I think I've got this.

9

I shall exchange for coffee, as per my taste preferences. I have already followed this step 4 times today.

2

It would be handy if I could just pack them up. Pet wrangling is going to be one of the most complicated parts of the move. Miss Meow will be sedated and confined to a small pen at each end while the move happens, and my sister is going to be nanny for the day to Mr Woof - hopefully the weather will be ok and she can exhaust him with a couple of long walks.

2

I know pizza on the floor is tradtional moving day fare, but as I already have the dining table up there I am going to break with tradition. The current plan is tacos.

1

I don't think I'm up to a proper inventory for everything, but I printed out some stickers to label which room everything belongs to. I'm writing a quick note on that of the most important bits I'm likely to want to look for first.

I did have a plan to use the orange fragile tape on all the last boxes I pack, as they will be the ones I want to unpack first, but I accidentally packed the tape with the rest of the stationey supplies, so I might have to do some "open first" labels instead.

Did everyone stockpile machetes before they were banned today? It slipped my mind and I forgot to get mine

8
aussie.zone

This has to be one of the least effective and stupidest knee-jerk reactions I've yet seen. It would be more to the point to ban shopping centres imo. Or teenagers. Machetes are really really easy to make - long grass slasher machine blades make the best ones. This is traditional in the bush for clearing scrub and butchering deer/sheep and opening Queensland Blue pumpkins if you can't find the bow saw. Just screw the blade to a handle of some sort and sharpen. And I don't think they're going to ban council grass mowers anytime soon. Or Bunnings. Or pumpkins.

9
aussie.zone

This reminds me of when my brother made nunchucks from mum's broom handle, a chain and some electrical tape.

4

Scythes are a bit different - really thin blade at the end of a long pole. Very specialised for it's purpose - mowing grass really low. A machete is a thickish chunk of metal and quite heavy.

3

Spent a bit of time in Machetes R Us on Machete street in the Machete district.

Got some good ones for the collection

4

dear optichoice caller who refused to acknowledge "not interested"

I hope you enjoy the high volume youtube poop I put the phone next to, and the complaint to the DNC

8

Usually we have Spotify on at work, but today we have the radio and they’re advertising a competition to win a ski trip to Utah and all I can think of is what if you won the competition and then were denied entry because border officials didn’t think it was enough of a reason to visit? I wonder if there’s the option to just take money instead, haha.

8

I just broke my packing tape dispenser.

Fortunately it is just a plastic guard so I can still use it, I just need to be careful not to gouge the tape with the metal cutter.

$400+ for floor seats for One Republic at Sidney Myer Music Bowl? $180+ for terrace seats? Fuck that.

7

For some of the worst audio quality possible in the live music capital of Australia, too.

I was 4throw at Sigur Ros the other day and it was ~$220. Still a shitload, but not that crazy

8

It was really good, of course, and there was quite a variety of songs, but largely the quieter, softer, more orchestral (obvs) ones. I did want the second half to rip my fave off with distortion and noise, but never really went to that place.
Still, great, but if anything too close! 😅

5

train delays all day from various punks walking out on tracks

wtf , this is intolerable

we need pictures 🤭

I bought some iron on patches which are half the size I expected ( pictures coming )

6

bip a refund, it's easy as. I've done it when the seller shipped the wrong thing. If you go for credit you get to keep the original.

3

I stand corrected. My Temu order is fucking AWESOME!!! I fucking love decorating my space!!! Aaaaargh!!!!!!

More photos on the weekend.

Maybe I've been too busy to notice but did I miss Autumn? Seems winter is here already.

7

I feel like we skipped into Winter very quickly. Even the beautiful big tree behind our house was confused for ages and then dropped its leaves very quickly!

6

I am so happy to be away from the dreaded plane trees and grimy streets of carlton

here the other day after some rain I went outside and the air smelled like a fresh forest 😭

5

I've still got some autumn colours in the garden.

With the morning frosts, I'm trying my last effort at growing poppies.

4

June will be winter, so in a few days it will be official… I had to check for the gardening thread as I never remember the seasons

4

I noticed some red leaves on a maple today, maybe the colours turning has been late because we had such a warm sunny April.

2

Feels like it’s been summer, summer, summer, little autumn, winter, winter, winter.

yay, no rain on the horizon , I think I will to the city for a bit

7

Famous last words. Been itchiing to get doggo out for a walk but everytime we're about to head it starts pouring for a few minutes and he hides lol.

6

I got rained on at pick up time :(

Always has a knack of raining during pick up.

2

Oh my. The dust that came out of the heater vents was unbelievable.

Get your heaters serviced if you haven't already.

Saw some cunt Jeep P-Plater with a "Fuck Cyclists" sticker on it. Should've taken a photo for crimestoppers. Bet it was some Andrew Tate fanboy piece of shit.

I fought the urge to do something destructive but boy did I want to. Key the car, slash two tyres, spray a swastika on the rear spare wheel, hang out and abuse the driver. Get my bike, bash my bike into the passenger side, then report a hit n run. Use some liquid nails and glue the progress flag patch I've got to the back.

5
aussie.zone

I am exhausted and I'm still so far behind where I want to be packing wise. All this stuff seems neverending, and everything seems to triple in size once I try to put it into a box. At least I should be building some good muscle with all this lifting.

Miss Meow likes the stacked boxed decor theme, she's been having a great time exploring everything.

6

Don’t be ashamed to just put soft items (ie clothes) in garbags or use them as cushioning on other items.

Packing sucks

4

Just do the easy stuff first.

Clothes in suitcases. That kind of thing.

2

I didn't go to bed early last night but I spent an hour playing with one of my grooveboxes. At least I spent some time doing something I like, and I think I've put enough down I could arrange it into a song

6

Yeah I regularly have moments where I have a mini heart attack because I can’t find my phone… and it hasn’t left the room.

I put my keys on a lanyard and literally tie them to my bag, or would use a carabiner and wallet chain. Years ago I used to have a zippered phone case with a chain to attach to your belt or bag which is actually a good idea

3

I put an egg in the air fryer. It didn’t work that great. After peeling the shell, there was a bit of overcooked outer layer but the yolk was nice and creamy

180 for 9 minutes

5
aussie.zone

I did a lot of reading about eggs for cooking sous vide, and they are actually very complicated. There is a lot of variabiity between different eggs, and the yolk and white cook at very different temperatures. Even if you repeat the exact same time and temperatures you are likely to get different results for different batches of eggs.

4

Also the size of the egg. I eat a bunch of hard boiled eggs, 600g carton is 7 minutes, +1 minute for every 100g.

2

I've tried 12 mins at 120 deg - eggs were room temperature and worked well for hard boiled. Doing the same with eggs from the fridge resulted in cooked whites and runny yolks.
EDIT: both above were in an airfryer.

2

160 for 8 mins, yolks were not totally cooked. One egg was a little runny, the other not so much.

Guess next time I’ll try with maybe 5 or 6 mins.

One of my friends suggested I pop it in the air fryer as well.

i'm going to give it a try sometime.

At least I have the proper snacks this time.
