I must admit that last week, I actually looked at how one can create a bot here in Lemmy.
If memory serves me right, I was looking at this repo, but decided it's a bit too much for me to understand, much less use and do something useful with it. It does have the functionality to automatically create posts in a community, however.
All this time I legitimately thought you were able to build the_yaya or repurposed her to work with Lemmy APIs that quickly.

We just belong to a different era with different tastes. It's not just animation quality I'm talking about here, but also the art style.
Also, I think it's been overrated by the older generation (like me) which just is not "cool" with the young ones.

If the protests are really such a failure as some people say, we wouldn't see actions such as:
I think that the resulting media coverage alone, forcing Reddit to go on a PR tour all over mainstream media, is success enough. It has also led some advertisers to pause their campaigns on Reddit.
Sentiment on Reddit is not reliable as well. Ignoring (chat) bots and plants, those who have remained are more skewed towards being on Reddit's side of the fight. The others, like us here, have already moved elsewhere, and some others still are boycotting the site. That means that our voices are not heard on Reddit anymore (not that I am interested in making my voice heard over there—not after I've gotten convinced that it doesn't matter).
The protests have succeeded in doing at least one thing: giving the people the push to move onto other alternatives. It also arguably succeeded in putting the highlight on the problems users have against Reddit. It also could probably be argued as spooking advertisers enough to put their campaigns on Reddit on a temporary hold.
In the end, it's just a matter of what you think the protests are aiming for, and to what extent. If you think the protests are such that Reddit gives in and relents on the API price spike, then yeah, sure, it failed hard. I think, however, that getting Reddit to relent is but a bonus.
You'll see some people comment that making all the content John Oliver will also drive traffic to the site because of the media coverage. This is true to some extent, but when that's all your content, people will get bored and move elsewhere. It will work if the way the subs are maliciously complying don't stop and a lot of subs join in.
Traffic to the site will increase because people are gawking at the trainwreck that Reddit is, and like gawking at burning wreckage, it gets boring eventually. As you've said, people will get bored and move elsewhere.
That, or it'd do a Twitter, attracting Musk-suckers enough to keep the traffic flowing.
Or maybe we're just doing wishful thinking here, lol! IDK.
Sabagay, buhay pa rin ang Twitter kahit sa dami ng kagaguhan na ginawa ni musk hahahaha. Importante lang na dumami ang subs na magparticipate, kasi pwede pumunta sa ibang subreddits ang mga bumisita para sa ginagawa ng r/pics at yung ibang subreddits.

However, to be honest, I do not care about what happens to Reddit beyond June 30th. It could do a Digg or a Twitter for all I care. I don't even care about getting people to migrate to alternatives too. I think Lemmy and Kbin combined already has enough people for organic growth on their own even without another wave of migrants. People just have to get used to a thinner, finite feed while more creators trickle in from elsewhere as the Threadiverse gets more traction.
That is to say, for me personally, I consider the protests a success even if only because they've got people to move here and to the other alternatives, giving them the traction they need to kickstart their own progress.
I agree I don't think its a failure either we all knew that reddit will not revert their decision. In back of our minds were probably thinking any alternative here. What I took from this protest made me realize there are other alternative to reddit. I was already aware of fediverse in general, but that was when twitter did their moment but I'm not a fan of those kind of social media. But being introduced with lemmy and creation of filipino community made the push to choose this as my main social media/forum.
Yes. Yun lang na na-expose tayo sa alternatibo sa Reddit malaking bagay na eh. But to be honest, I was also part of the migration to Voat a while back. It was not my proudest moment, but one of the communities I was in back then decided to move over there (to Voat). I didn't even participate over there once I've seen the kind of people I was with. Nakaka-walang-gana.
That's why I was one of the people who are skeptical of any Reddit alternatives. Napaso na ako sa Voat eh.
This time is different, however. Dun pa lang sa vibe na nadatnan ko dito, ibang-iba kaysa sa nadatnan ko sa Voat. I wasn't able to participate prior to the blackouts since nakikiramdam pa lang ako. And then here we are right now.
Sorry sa rant ah. But yeah, if there's one thing that the protests have achieved, it's making people aware that there are better alternatives out there.
I think lemmy gives the old school vibe of reddit. I think thats why people are somewhat fine with it. But time well tell if people willing to keep the engagement here.

I haven't been going to Reddit since the blackout. Well, pasilip-silip lang when someone shares a saucy link lmao, but that's it.
It's still alive, mostly because the admin of the other Philippines community is posting links. I do too at least once a day. It's certainly second in terms of the other Reddit alternatives I've seen (decent UI, no slowdowns), wala nga lang activity at all beyond the two of us.

Aside from convenience, in what ways is this better than the "standard" method of using ADB?
I mean, one of the steps is installing ADB and enabling developer mode on the phone. I guess you don't have to pull up a list of the apps that you want to remove? I wonder if there's anything more to it.
oh they also keep a list of apps that are safe to remove per device manufacturer. If something goes wrong. Open a github issue to warn others about it and so they could update the list.
Yeah, that's one of the advantages I see over there (having a list already made for you, which is convenient).
I mean, the biggest advantage this has over the “standard method” is convenience:
Those three alone that I've listed already covers most of my pain points in the “standard method,” and for me personally, it already makes for a compelling case.
However I was wondering if it does something that isn't possible using ADB. If there's some feature that it is capable of, but ADB isn't capable of, then that'd make for an even more compelling case.

At the end of the day, it is just a GUI for wrapping ADB commands.
It just makes the deleting and restoring the system apps much easier with just a few clicks, and having list to know which can be safely deleted.

I think what I'd do is to get this for routine cleanup (after a MIUI update, for example), and then run things with ADB for the others that this tool might have missed.
I've already used this, and still those removed system apps appeared again after updating the ROM. Walang "gold standard" sa debloater, it's still run its commands through ADB.
while I did exaggerate the gold standard term, Universal Android Debloater is still good for Non-root phones.
If you really want to remove those system apps, just root your phone. If the apps you're talking about is about Google apps(like Chrome), some of it tends to come back to your phone once you update another google app since they used app dependencies, and if playstore didn't find it then they'll just install once again.
If you are desperate to remove those system apps, just root your phone.
I have a similar device (Redmi Note 11 5G) and while I haven't gone full de-google, I've done a bit of removal.
I had to go through a bit of ADB though:
I've followed a guide like this (please don't take it as a recommendation to follow this particular guide), and a list like this of Xiaomi bloatware (again, not recommending this particular list).

I recently removed most Google system apps using ADB, and after updating from MIUI 13 to 14 the other day, those apps appeared again. Haha

Samantalang ako, di ko pa tapos hulugan yung phone ko, kakabili ko lang kasi eh (roughly nine months ago). I thought it'd be a decent phone (and it has decent-enough specs for my usecases), but I never thought I'd struggle so hard to de-bloat and remove ads from its apps.
bricked a phone by removing the default launcher. was confident everything was okay because i was toying around with the new launcher for an hour. deactivated the developer mode. then the screen went blank. rebooted the phone but the screen remains blank. could not recover through adb because of it was no longer in developer mode. good thing it was an old phone.
it was fun though, did it again with another phone. learned my lesson- did not remove the stock launcher and left the developer mode on the second time around.
You can still access your phone by rebooting to bootloader. There, you can restore your data using the backup file (not sure kung gagana pa ito sa iilang apps).
Install Lineage OS
Unfortunately, the unofficial LOS for RN11 is abandoned as per checking on XDA, and LOS itself is not de-Googled. It still has Google frameworks.

May setting na "Select language" sa comment box. Kapag wala akong pinili, post na kaagad. Pero kapag pinili ko ang "Wikang Tagalog" ang bagal o ayaw mag-post, at least sa desktop.

I see, thanks!! I was guessing that a lot of the lemmy.world accounts are from the US, so kung gising sila, mejo slow tayo dito sa Pinas.
However, on the other hand, kung gising tayo, tulog naman sila, so this kind of arrangement is a win in our favor, well, and also the Australians.
