Just exit big picture mode and open steam normally from the desktop. I actually like big picture mode on the deck after rolling my eyes at it on desktop forever though, it really seems like it was made specifically for the deck
Sounds like you need to check out desktop mode. Hold the power button, or go to the power section in the menu, and select "Switch to Desktop". That puts you in "PC" mode. You could install Heroic launcher or similar to get games from other platforms. Or you can get your installers and add them to steam and use proton to run them.

Agreed, same for me. Now I believe it is the better way to do basic usage on the deck.
"just" isn't working right for me. When i open steam on desktop it opens onto a second desktop that o can't get to.
