We need to get back to pet-shaming more. It's funny, and they don't understand, nor do they have the faculties to have their feelings hurt by it.

You misspelled "stupid."

Edit: Damn, I guess not a lot of comedians here, huh

So, you’re telling me the cat was napping? The things they’re famous for?

Jk, I still like it.

My cats would be yelling immediately, they hate car rides.

14

Lol mine just about throws up when I take her 5 mins to the vet. Unfortunately for her, she has to do day-long road trips once or twice a year to visit family. But after she chills out, she's quite an easy rider. Just very anxious at the beginning haha. I love her so much 😭

6

That's because whenever you put them in the car, they're going to the cattery or the vet.

They're not like dogs where they might go to the park.

Nothing good comes from car rides for cats.

5

The difference is that you or I would be putting the cats in the car. This cat got in the vehicle, passed out, and woke up on a road trip.

Never trust Merriam-Webster. I don't know if the errors I found are fixed now, but the fact they existed in the first place is disappointing. The only trustworthy English dictionary is Oxford.

Edit: Snuck is a US informal term, according to the backup dictionary, Collins. This dictionary is riddled with ads, but also multiple sources for alternative definitions.

The Merriam Webster link didn't say it was incorrect as the guy implied. They said it's a correct form and gave the history.

13

Correct. Thats also what I read. Snuck is irregular, and came about due to common use anyway. So while it’s not correctly following ver typical rules, it’s adopted into the lexicon anyway.

Skibidi. 🙄🙄

4

Though, interestingly, it doesn't feel weird to me for the past form, only the past participle!

Haha no, she wasn't able to keep mum. She never can.

13

Unexpected comment elicited a guffaw… Well done 😁😂

2

This is the only correct form. Until this very moment I have almost always fallen on the descriptivist side of things, but this is now the prescriptivist hill I will die on.

3

I would say snekn’t, but that got me banned on some other site.

I really appreciate you sharing that video with me and really enjoyed watching it.

6

Are you not aware of the different forms of English? There are several differences between American English and British English, "spelled" and "spelt" being one example.

Collins and Merriam-Webster are both American English dictionaries, and the Oxford English Dictionary is a British English dictionary.

Smelled or smelt?

That’s the grain with the P. It’s a family of fish, smelt.

"snuck" is perfectly fine, as long as that's what you've heard since birth. 🤷

I would love having a cat I can just bring with me anywhere I could bring a dog. I miss cats

Looks like kitty is along for the ride today, because I'm not taking a 2+ hour detour

Yea, but what do you do? No litter box, no food and water ... also, the guy has a cat meowing at him in his work van all day.

13

Stop and buy supplies of course! Even most grocery stores carry disposable litter pans, or just a plastic bin, along with food. Even a paper bowl will work for water.

Du hast von der Distanz her Recht, aber die Existenz or Erwähnung von mehr als einem Saarland macht mir Angst.

I vote that all Germans should from now on refer to distances in terms of Saarland - but rather than use kilo- mega- etc, you just add extra "A"s. Actually, better idea, you should change the name of Germany itself to Saaaaaarland.

3

You get a Habsburg chin and you get a Habsburg chin, everyone gets a Habsburg chin

1

Bei so einer Größe wäre irgendwann sogar die genetische, ähem, Homogenität der Saarländer in Gefahr. 😜

(meine Großmutter kommt aus dem Saarland)

Holy moly proper use of the regular past tense of sneak?? I haven't seen that on the internet ever. "I sneaked my way into the concert, but I also snuck several beers into the venue."

14
belastendreply
slrpnk.net

I mean, OC implies that "sneaked" and "snuck" have different meanings

2
d00eryreply
lemmy.world

More than that. One can creep about, or flit stealthily from place to place.

I'm sure there's more.

2
belastendreply
slrpnk.net

Nono, those are synonyms of " to sneak". He is saying that sneak has two different past tenses, depending on the meaning.

2
belastendreply
slrpnk.net

That would be an absolute anomaly in English, as far as I know.

2

I think you conflate irregular orthography and irregular grammar or conjugation paradigms.

Like it's pretty regular otherwise.

1

Hmmmm

My German speaking brain (as a second language, my native language is English) is interpreting “my way” and “several beers” as accusative objects, and the repeated use of “into” as clues which would make me want to use the same conjugation for both. I could see “I sneaked into the concert but I also snuck several beers in.”

4

He doesn't know what you're doing but wants to be a part of it :>

Sounds like Dad should pay more attention to his environment, and to securing his work van ...

-8

Also, have you met a cat? They basically roll a nat 20 on every goddamn stealth check when they want to.

24

sounds like someone needs to understand I'm not going to inspect my car every god damned morning with a clipboard like some kind of an obsessed psychopath.

  • 5am - roll out of bed and 3S
  • 5:30 - make/eat breakfast
  • 5:45 - fill thermos with coffee
  • 5:55 - get in the truck and drive to the site
  • 7am - work

my dad did the above for 40-ish years. I did it with him for about 10.

never did we "pay attention to our environment". know why? because we were too preoccupied with making sure we had all the shit we needed for the day. like water, food, and most importantly tools/materials.

know what sucks? getting to a job site and realizing you forgot your one tool that's required to work that day.

know what doesn't suck? bringing your cat to work by mistake. if anything, it might just be the highlight of your day because you have a truck-buddy that's soft and fluffy and will not ask about moving a wall or bitching about how the pitch of your sewer outlet is too low.
