So bishops, rooks, queens are OP. Knights are less useful due to limited range, and pawns are just as expendable as before.

I thought this would be like donut chess, where your moves wrap around - but nope, infinite means infinite

oh my god im nerding out so much about this idea

it would have to be like Kung Fu Chess where instead of being turned base it relies on individual piece cooldowns and quick thinking. with a multitude of players on a large map i think it should probably be point based instead of focusing on checkmate, using the general rules of material (pawns being worth 1 material all the way to queens being 9 material).

i think bishops and other pieces should all have a limited range of how far you can go at once. can you imagine playing a very close match (it being cooldown based it would probably be a lot higher adrenaline) with someone and seeing someone starting to close in on you to vulture the aftermath?

edit i think your pieces should be tethered to a max radius around your king? thatd probably be interesting and balance it some

why am i nerding out about this and wishing I could make this a real thing lol

I dont think the board is initialised randomly, there are set seeds

If moves wrap, aren’t you in checkmate at the very start?

Woah, good point. First move (reverse queen teleport) basically wins the game

I was thinking just king takes king. Which is not something you would usually see. So black is already in checkmate before white even moves. Though white is also in checkmate.

Sorry for the inner horse girl moment, but it's spelled whoa

Bishops take off diagonally to the new world to find other boards to civilize.

Keep a bishop hidden behind the toilet until your opponent forgets about it

Ah yes, a limitless duel of the minds in your local public restroom. Our battle will be legendary.

What the absolute fuck were the tile layers thinking there? Jfc.

I wonder if it's somewhere that's heavily Christian. I know some builders that always leave a small "mistake" in patterns cause "only Jesus is perfect"

Even if the pattern were laid out properly there's no way it's "perfect". There would be slight differences in height, alignments, etc. It comes down to a matter of how close you look, but it will never be flawless.

Imagine the ego on someone like that who thinks their work would even come close to the supreme creator of the universe's level. They either think they're far more skilled than they are, or that their deity is far more flawed. Either way it's nonsense.

6

Yeah, I didn't say it made sense, but I know at least a half dozen builders that abide by that. They don't do it even remotely this bad, usually just one tile out of place somewhere

You'll actually see it a lot in places that were built to be Mexican restaurants

1

I bet it’s supposed to be a pseudo border around the whole room but we’re just seeing one wall so it looks super out of place. Can’t say it’s a design choice I would make though.

3

This is how the chess pieces escape the game and take over the world. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!?

9

Maybe even a two stage RT-2PM Topol intercontinental ballistic missile?

Nuclear chess exists

Every take blows up around the pieces

1

So when the king dies, the remaining losing pieces go into anabasis mode
