If we can get match threads and goals in here then that's 80% of my reddit usage.

Yup, same here. Also love how we get a second chance to make things right and use /c/football and not /r/soccer

This sub(or whatever it is called in Lemmy) already has more engagement than I expected. We can make this happen!

Very nice, hope this takes off, my favorite subreddit was r/soccer hopefully PSGacademy migrates too so we can have some highlights 😭

We could make a bot to scrape r/soccer and duplicate posts here, or use the free API, though im not 100% sure as I obv dont want to infringe on the rules in here. Happy to do so as a fuck you to reddit though.

Yeah, I've been reposting some things I found on r/soccer but don't know if we want to replicate the whole frontpage, maybe do highlights and game threads first and foremost?

IMO, I think we get the most initial traction from content. Specifically, highlights and news. Once people realize there are other good social media aggregators, the match threads and etc will come on their own

3

Yeah that's true, guess there is no point in having match threads if only 5 people post in them xd

Would be fun, I'm just trying this place out to be honest and noticed there wasn't a community for football! Who's your team?

2
lemmy.world

I'm kind of a Sunderland fan (not from the UK, but liked them the most when I started following English football), mostly follow the Swedish national team otherwise 😊

My cousin is a Sunderland fan, tough break in the playoffs. Also I love Zlatan, he will be missed.

2
lemmy.world

Yeah, sad with the injury keeping him from coming back full strength 🫤. Happy I grew up with a Swede at the absolute top of football tho!

3

Ah good to see my favorite sub in here already. The only thing I miss already is the team flair

Thanks mate, especially for claiming the proper name for the place!

Proud to be the first Scottish fan on this sub!

My team's Dunfermline Athletic, recently promoted to the second tier in Scotland and looking forward to the new season already.

EDIT - sorry, "community", not "sub"! I suspect that's not the last time I'll make that mistake.

Congrats! I don't know if there's such a thing as flairs on here yet but once those come along I'll see what we can do about it.

Are you from Dunfermline?

My dad's a Man United fan so that's a cross I bear. He took me to see Peterborough all the time growing up though, so I watch them when I can.

3

Nice! More fun being a fan of a smaller side I think - less glory, but it means more when it happens.

Yes, I went with my dad, brother in law and has brother to Wembley to watch The Posh win the Johnstone's Paint Trophy which was awesome!

2

Thanks for setting this up! Can't beat a bit of football chat and with it being silly season, I'm sure there's plenty to be had!

The 2014 Mexico - Netherlands game was a defining moment in my football fandom. No era penal!

Hello! Van Basten in '88 is still a top 10 goal of all time for my money.

Then you must also remember RUUD Gullit :-)

2

I do, although I confess my knowledge of stuff from the 80s is from YouTube. I remember Gullit at Chelsea and Newcastle

2

So glad we got the name football! Hartlepool/Sunderland fan checking in hopefully this community stays active, r/soccer was my fave sub

4

Hello everyone, fellow r/soccer refugee and MUFC fan from the states

Look forward to the banter this season!!
