The lawsuit says the alleged "doxxings" cost the members their jobs and personal relationships.

Uhhh ... if the revealing of members caused those members to lose their jobs, it's because their employers determined that they don't want to employ Patriot Front members. Last I checked, without a specific contract, employment is at will.

Tell that to the police.

As in they’re shitheads protected by the law.

The hypocrisy of these groups is showing:

The suit claims Capito joined Patriot Front using a false identity and accessed the group's computer databases to access private information, which he then shared with friendly activists and hackers.

"This confidential information was then widely published and used to harass and threaten the Plaintiffs, with the aim, and result, of doxxing them and other Patriot Front members and causing them serious harm," the lawsuit says.

They do this sort of thing all the time to the trans community.

Right-wing mentality says that it's alright when they do something, but if you do it back to them, that's cheating and shouldn't be allowed. You know, spoiled 5-year-old shit.

Which is why this makes me a bit uneasy

Sure, when it happens to Nazis, fuck em, they're scum

But like...I'll bet some of you reading are Communists. There's a lot of employers who would fire you for affiliating with communist groups. Or pro-union groups.

I don't like the precedent of ruining someone's life because it can easily be turned around on you.

If the potential for harm was enough to argue against directly opposing fascism, they have already won.

Yes, history is filled with injustice. But do you really think that there will be more justice by refraining from confronting Nazis?

It’s okay to be uneasy, just don’t let it detract from a well deserved win, but instead channel it into protecting those you care about.

Communists are usually pretty good employees since they spend a lot of time reading about how capitalism actually works. If I were a CEO, I’d rather one communist giving me advice than 20 incurious bozos who think “capitalism” equals commerce and Adam Smith liked landlording.

Communists also tend to be free thinkers, which can be detrimental to a certain style of soul sucking awful jobs

But the point is that if the company or the boss personally disagree with communism, they'll can the employee

Fortunately, most people disagree with Nazis, so we're okay with it when it happens to Nazis

Yeah, I don't mind the naming of names, but it sounds like they used their connection to access more personal info which was obtained and distributed specifically for the purpose of targeting them with attacks.

Which of course they deserve. I'm not gonna argue that white supremacists don't deserve every bit of negativity they receive...but like you said, it's about the precedent.

If the shoe was on the other foot and some far right activist had done this to a group of progressives, LGBT+ people, etc. the outrage would be justified.

The entire mindset of "well it's okay because I don't like the people it affected" is problematic and fundamentally cheapens the position of anyone who adopts such a stance.

Buuuuuuut...this is Lemmy. And if you thought the hive mind was bad on reddit, buckle up.

The funny thing about free speech is that naming who is part of a hate group can likely be argued as free speech moreso than "whaaah, we got fired for the awful shit we said", given that it's called freedom of speech and not freedom from the consequences of my speech. Doubly so when you're talking about consequences brought about by a private organization/not the government. After all, their place of employment has freedom of speech rights too, as well as the ability to choose who they associate with.

Lol they lost their jobs because they're racist scumbags, not because of the doxxing

It just further enforces the fact that they know what they're doing is wrong. They just don't care.

Their jobs? You mean their government jobs? Patriot Front are feds yeah?

They were likely not sarcastic, that user is at best severely mentally ill, but probably some kind of troll or disinformation worker.
