Lines up well with population density, if anything, lower population areas might be a bit over represented!

I want everyone to know that on the 5th, a whole lot of the country was under like day 3 of severe storms. I expected no one to show up in Tennessee, especially in Nashville, with all the flooding and the flooded out streets. Apparently, there was still a turnout, and that's kind of a big deal.

Yes! My city's protest was a sight to behold. I will point out that these protests are just as much for the protestors as anything else. To be around so many people that gave a fuck was really energizing and hopeful. It pulls you out of your online ecosystem and reminds you that your neighbors care about you and you care about them. It builds momentum for the next protest and the next one and then more collective action. People are credibly talking about a general strike. Economic boycotts are starting to make a (small) dent. Our most effective tool is how we choose to spend our dollars and it's going to take a lot of sacrifice and be more uncomfortable than any of us are probably used to but yesterday showed a whole lot of people that they aren't alone.

Whats happening April 19th? I need to be more in the loop of when and where these protests are happening

Here's my reaction to the protests:

I've been hurt by too many flash-in-the-pan activist things that ended up going nowhere. I'm not ready to believe yet.

I feel exactly the same. I will be convinced when the votes are in.

12

That kinda depends if semblance of leadership takes form to have actual reasonable goals for the protest.

2

for anybody wondering, this loosely appears to mirror the population density at a quick glance (which makes sense)

21

Generally, yes. Alaska seems over-represented, while Utah and the deep South are a bit light.

3

New England and the Chicago area look on that map like they're about to cecede to Canada lol

I look forward to being proved wrong, can’t wait to see how this changes the situation.

you mean the guy who said in his last days that malcom X was right and that they would have gotten further by adopting his methods?

4

If you've given up and are ready to take those billionaire backshots then go ahead. I'm not.

2

and if all those same people that showed up to protest had showed up to the houses of conservative government leaders and drug them out into the streets, we'd be making real progress. i love it when the people show up. i just want them to do something with that energy.

5

I was looking all day for protests in my area, southern OK, but the closest I could find was in OKC. I’m stoked to find out that there was one closer, and disappointed I couldn’t find it.

There aren't blue states and red states, just states with more people of one persuasion or the other, or neither.

And what do we call a state with more people of red/blue persuasion?

4

We mislabel them "red states" and "blue states", perpetuating simplistic binary thinking. White hats vs black hats. Our team vs Their team.

Trump and MAGA don't care about people holding signs.

Peaceful protests have proved time and time again they do nothing.

-28

It's not for Trump's benefit. It can help build momentum and encourage further action. It reminds people they are not alone. Action starts with getting off your ass, and organizing in the real world.

This exact defeatist thinking is what led to all of this nonsense. Banding together gives people a sense of hope and community that gets lost when everyone is so isolated nowadays. These protests remind everyone that there's a like-minded community around them that all support one another, and gives them the strength to do more than just protest. One person cannot do much to make change, but a collective community bandrd together can. Rolling over, going "protests don't work, just give up" is actively harmful to a movement.

18

This exact defeatist thinking is what led to all of this nonsense.

It isn't defeatist. I'm saying ramp that shit up.

Trump and MAGA aren't the usual government. They hate you. Making you pissed and angry standing outside holding signs is funny to them.

Start burning and breaking shit.

We're not buying American products here in Canada. Almost the entire country is revved up in this boycott.

They’re not talking to Trump. He’s too senile with Affluenza to care. They’re talking to their representatives, to business leaders, and Trump’s handlers.

And yes, it matters. The rich fear deeper than anything else the thought of us coming for them and killing them or taking their power. They hold retreats about it, for crying out loud. Any protest, even the ones that don’t seem to do much, make them very uncomfortable.

It reminds them that they don’t have as much control over people as they think.

Just ignore him. Looks like we're getting some bad faith users now that the sub was plastered everywhere yesterday.

This place is literally for organizing and boosting these protests. That's the whole point, the reason any of us are here. Like showing up at a church service and asking what's the point of praying.

"I need you to calmly explain to me the merits of fish, after I blatantly disrespected the entire aquarium lovers community in their own community space."

Then when you call them out: "I thought you fish people were supposed to be loving and tolerant! Why won't anyone tell me why fish are so great?"

They really gotta get a new playbook.

2

They would also throw a tantrum when they got kicked out for trying to fish, yelling slurs at children about their freedoms being crushed by George Soros or something when there is a massive publicly accessible lake across the street that is well known in the local angler community.

I mean I wish they would just do this instead, at least that would be hilarious, what they are actually doing is pathetic and like you said the strategies never work anyways.

Those who ignore peaceful protests, ensure violent protests.

The message is clear, There are enough organized and angry people that taking state and national capitals is well within the possibility. The trump admin has two options here..yield, or break.

24

I am a hillbilly republican, just one who thinks that LGBTQ+ people should be allowed to exist, that America should be a land of opportunity for everyone, and that the rich should pay taxes. Which in this world makes me a pretty far left Democrat.

The real cringe thing is seeing yourself as an ivory tower elite, above all the people fighting for their rights, casting judgment on the riffraff below you for quoting JFK.

3

If nothing else: it shows to the world that not all Americans support this administration. Makes it easier to heal relations with your allies if you'll ever manage to get rid of him.

I guess it was only a matter of time until these people started showing up here too, especially with the ahem signal boost we got yesterday.

11

The April 5th protests, ofc! r/50501 was plastered on protest signs and shared all over the internet as the place to go for the movement. I think it has gained more than 20k subs just over the weekend. Naturally, that would lead some to here as well.

After looking through your comment history I've discovered that everything is black and white and any one person/group/organization only has one thing they stand for and everything else is a smokescreen. Unfortunately there's no way to know which stance they appear to support is the real one, so I'll have to look and see what you post to know the truth.

Some people may think that this is an inflammatory over-simplification specifically designed to encourage people to work against their own interests, but me and you know better, don't we?

5

Wait, do you think the protests are in support of Israel? That's wild. There were Palestinian flags at the protests, my guy, and one of the biggest ones for support of Palestine was in DC. There's footage and pictures of it, man.
