My terminal is grey :)
Ctrl+Alt+F3 sends you to TTY3, not a terminal. I'm sure you can make TTY3 grey if you really want to, but I doubt that's what you did.
My TTY or whatever it's called is also grey :)
I use slock with MOD+E in dwm...
