lol an Arsenal player must die before City get a card, I see

9

They're all Man U fans they should hate City but we're too good and they're too oily lol

2
lemmygrad.ml

kids who didn't watch the game will tell me tomorrow how City dominated us

8
lemmygrad.ml

the reason we're playing counter-attack is the lack of a certain Ukrainian inverted man

the reason we've a clean sheet is Timber

8

Which is a good thing. We don't need to expose our wings. Sometimes a block with Tierney was the best option in the previous season.

3
Astrealixreply
lemmy.world

Less attacks from him than the first half but he's doing pretty good yeah

4

I think that's the issue. He's just not comfortable going season

2

Rough start but we're getting into it.. odegaard is a beast, jurrian timber is fantastic, saliba is intelligent, martinelli + saka 😍

#COYG

7

COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!! 💥💥💥 LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOO

7
lemmy.world

I really enjoy how these match threads aren't so pessimistic. I'm sure the Reddit one is going on about how our season is doomed.

7
Astrealixreply
lemmy.world

I mean we look good against the second best team in the world tbf

8

I was thinking this exact thing earlier

I used to steer clear entirely because of how toxic it got.

That and I am always under the assumption people don't really care what I have to say.

1
lemmy.world

30 minutes into the first half I realized that our defense looks so much stronger. Timber and rice have brought some great football IQ and strong skills to the the team.

7

You can tell the confidence is there in the players watching them. They are all cool, calm, collected on the ball and can really pass and move well, which helps when we have the ball. Defensively as a unit they are quite solid and have done well to hold City to 3 shot, none of which were on target.

6
lemmy.world

Yellow card for Pep? lol

Feels like if it were Arteta he'd be sent off for even breathing in the refs direction

7
Astrealixreply
lemmy.world

He already got a yellow like first minute for asking for a legitimate yellow ffs

6
lemmy.world

Palmer literally kicking Trossard yet "Trossard taking exception to Cole Palmer"

6

Completely not, they like to compliment the colors red and white with the color yellow

3
coygsureply
lemmy.world

Offensive structure doesn't make sense. Players look lost in the final third.

3

100%. Our fluidity in the final was missing and that was confusing given how we looked against our other preseason opponents

3
Astrealixreply
lemmy.world

Interfering and timewasting I'm assuming; bloody stupid card though

1

Ffs... there's time wasting but, a yellow for something like that is pretty stupid.

Trust the refs to use us to make an example of their new changes

1

The cards handed/not handed out feel so odd and inconsistent already. This season will be interesting...

1
lemmy.world

Wow , Odegaards move was absolutely filthy. Disrespectful on those ankles

5
Astrealixreply
lemmy.world

Yeah, definitely a tactical thing going on there to get attacks going, he's deeper than Lacazette sometimes used to be

3

I wonder if that's because he wasn't getting much service? Or maybe Pep is trying something different?

1

More Chelsea fans having a laugh compared to Arsenal fans bashing Havertz.

2

Good first half overall. City don't look sharp right now and if we can just be more clinical we got this.

4
Nuggsyreply
lemmy.world

I'm not completely sold on him just yet either. But, I haven't been able to catch a pre-season game so far and he's not being played in his ideal position.

This is a new team for him as well after being at the manager cluster-fuck of Chelsea

I'm hopeful he grows into his boots under Arsenal. I feel there is a player in there that could benefit us!

3

It will be interesting to see how it works when Jesus drops in and Havertz fills the space. Havertz and Rice are big boys who take up a lot of space in the midfield when we don't have the ball.

2

Easy conclusion to me. I'm in the same boat. Always felt a striker was a better option then a replacement for Xhaka.

2

Can't hear a single fucking chant from Man City, what a surprise — granted that's on TV not in the actual ground but still

4

Not the same team Tbf, no Gundogan and no Mahrez and KDB didn't play with Haaland today

3
lemmy.world

Alright, time to see what we're made of. Tierney can't fucking get a start, so let's see how Timber does.

4
coygsureply
lemmy.world

I wanted Trossard over Havertz and Tierney over Timber.

3
Astrealixreply
lemmy.world

Same, but I trust the gaffer. He's got his reasons. We'll see.

2

The commentators early on commented on how little of the ball Arsenal had. But, City weren't doing too much, so I was happy just to weather the storm and build confidence :)

4

I'm about to start crying at work holy heck..... I fucking love you Trossard you cheat code 😭

3

Yeah, Ortega did well, but Havertz shouldn't have shot in the first place with where Martinelli was imo

2

Less great a corner but yeah we're coming into this game a bit more. Want to see more from that right side though

2

You'd never catch me singing that even if I was from the UK

2

Haha, may as well stay the final 6+ minutes and keep the rest of us company xD

I'll let you cry on my shoulder if I can cry on yours

4

Havertz really needs to stop shooting it right at the GK . What a clear cut chance.

3

Also I honestly don't think that shoulda been a card lol, not convinced Alvarez realised it was out

2
coygsureply
lemmy.world

The first one I can excuse because it was awkward. This one was on a platter.

2
Astrealixreply
lemmy.world

Yeah.. finishing has never been his thing though, and that's not what we signed him for. Maybe can be coached but he's a midfielder first and foremost

2
coygsureply
lemmy.world

That raises the question. Why bring in another midfielder when you need a striker?

1
Astrealixreply
lemmy.world

We have 4 strikers on the books and we needed to replace Xhaka??

2

1 of them to be sold, 1 injured, and 1 on the bench. Could have gotten a striker better than Nketiah and Balogun for 65 million pounds. Kolo Muani, Patrik Schick, Thuram or maybe even Osimhen with some add ons.

0

Of course Gabriel gets a card for running back and being kicked in the ass /lh

3
lemmy.world

Just realised but it's interesting that Martinelli took that, feel like we never have him take them

2
Nuggsyreply
lemmy.world

That's an interesting point... I didn't consider that.

It's usually Ode, right?

1

Fuck them not putting Holding on Notable Bench lol I wouldn't be surprised if he comes on for the 5-2-3 plan today

2
lemmy.world

Anybody else get a tingly feeling when Tierney was announced :)

2
Nuggsyreply
lemmy.world

12:30am? What country are you based in?

It's 2:30am for me in Sydney

1

I am excited for the potential of more ESR this season.

Hopefully he stays fit and kicks on :)

2
lemmy.world

Is there a way to have the thread refresh? Or is it just a good ol' F5?

2

Alrighty, thank you :)

F5 can be a dangerous game, depending what window I have active xD

2
arcreply
lemmy.world

Sync for lemmy has a sports mode that auto refreshes ;)

2
lemmygrad.ml

what drugs would you recommend to an arsenal fan? I'm not feeling very well

2

That was straight at him. I'm not a Raya propagandist. I'm a competition propagandist lol

1
coygsureply
lemmy.world

Tierney slipped and the shot was dispatched before Gabriel could fully get there.

1

Yeah but before that Tierney was basically 1 on 3, as someone who literally just came on. Hard to do well there. He definitely coulda done better though

2
lemmy.tf

Really annoyed at Arteta not making a substitution yet.

2
Nuggsyreply
lemmy.world

Would you swap out Havertz or give him a bit more?

1
sabreW4K3reply
lemmy.tf

Havertz has looked good at the left 8. At 9 he looked frustrated and disappointed.

1

Probably came here specifically not to play 9 lol, don't blame him personally

2
sabreW4K3reply
lemmy.tf

Not sure about big brained Arteta. But will be interesting to see how the season unfolds.

0

I think later, we don't wanna change things up rn and mess with our momentum

1
lemmy.world

Come on Partey you can't give these refs a reason

1
coygsureply
lemmy.world

He got the yellow for kicking the ball afterwards.

1

Didn't see the kick ngl, still stupid card, it's a fucking final and the first few minutes

2

Yeah, I'm just wondering whether we might do that also in possession given Partey and Rice as a double pivot.

1

When you play for the Arsenal, you can't give the refs a reason. The yellow card is already halfway loaded.

2

Martinelli needs to improve his crossing. Not up to his previous form.

1

Would be a bit harsh for the card imo, no malicious intent or anything there and it wasn't the worst tackle

3

The ball looks like it's covered in mud. I think it's just a gold pattern?

1

Need to start stringing some passes together again. Giving the ball away too often
