They probably tried setting it on their wireless phone charger. I hope they aren't dumber than that, but I don't really have a lot of hope.

Probably just a brainfart and what they meant was that the device won't stay powered on unless plugged to a charger. Probably.

I did say I didn't have much hope. I considered the "won't work unless plugged in" option but we don't know what kind of device it was. I also considered the complete idiot option. All of these are possible.

If both devices use USB-C, that might charge the Chromebook a little bit and make it give a useful error about the quality of the charger.

Okay, I'm wrong. That's not how this works. I'm pretty sure I've seen an error on a Lenovo running Windows when I hooked it up to a phone charger.

How does it work?

Giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming they mean the laptop won't charge USB devices unless it's plugged in.

I usually do the opposite, I charge people fees because they unplugged something and lie when they say it is plugged in.

This person probably drove to work.

Practice defensive driving, folks. It can save your life.

So now I'm supposed to drive, text, and look out for stupid people like this!? Doesn't seem very safe. I'm just trying to enjoy my beer out here...
