Do you mean acronyms or initialisms? I can't think of any 3 letter acronyms which are groups or agencies. All the ones I can think of are initialisms.

Acronym is said like a word (NASA, FEMA). Initialism is just the letters (FBI, CIA).

I once genuinely got asked in the middle of a meeting with our client at work: "When will our SLA and KPI be BAU? Do we need more SQEP?" Had no idea what any of that meant other than SLA so just blagged my way out of that one.

I've got a friend that, when cornered by acronym soup, starts discussing very detailed analytics for whatever they're talking about. He says the acronyms don't matter as long as the audience is sufficiently bored by whatever your answer is.

That’s the beauty and curse of language. It is constantly morphing and changing depending on public sentiment. I truly believe in another 40-60 years, “fuck” will be a perfectly normal word for a 6 year old to say instead of “oops”.
