A good workaround, but making the keyboard smaller isn’t a long-term solution. Cool trick, though. Thanks for sharing. I just tried it, and it’s pretty neat.
Split the keyboard
When Split Keyboard is turned on in Settings, tap in a text field to open the onscreen keyboard, then do any of the following:
Split the keyboard: Touch and hold the Hide Keyboard key, slide your finger to Split, then release.
Put the split keyboard back together: Touch and hold the Hide Keyboard key, slide your finger to Merge, then release.
Mine does not look like that at all (11” iPad Pro). It might be because you’re using a 3rd party keyboard. Try switching to stock and seeing if that gives more room.

Yeah. Unfortunately split screen keyboard is disabled on 12.9" iPads though for some reason.
