That can only ever happen between people who have sex. So we know that the headline was worded this way based on the fact that giving a kidney is an act of love that is definitely easily confined to a phrase that simply means two people sleep together. /s
It would have been easy to see the headline as awkward but also probably not mal intended or even ignorant. But nope, not allowed on the Internet.
