Has Ford owner I can tell you debadging a Ford won't stop anyone knowing its a Ford. They design it specifically so you don't need the emblem. Hell it fades off on most trucks and cars in a few months.

What I remove is any mention of the dealership. That I will advertise for.

I'm usually anti dealer badges, but when we bought our Accord, the dealer said if we kept the dealer license plate frame on, we'd get free car washes for life. We took advantage of that many times. Seemed a fair trade to me.

How would you even debadge a modern Ford truck? All the ones I've seen have FORD in massive letters on the front.

1

I blacked all mine out with plastidip, at least the ones I couldn't remove without leaving a massive spot open and look even worse

1

Go a step farther and get more letters off of cars in the junk yard. Then stick them on your POS spelling out “found on road dead” or “fix or repair daily” (dead WRXs are helpful for the latter).

99% of the time I HATE advertising, however in this circumstance I can't relate, I love my Kia Soul and I really like how down to earth the old Kia logo was. More importantly it feels like a part of Sir-hops-a-lot's personality that id be removing and I don't want that.
(yes, I have named and personified it a bit so I'm not really the average customer lol)

beep beep frog car incoming!

nyooom! 🐸

I do agree on clothing, if it's not funny (apparently there's a brand named 'lorem ipsum' that makes shirts) or like a YouTubers merch or experience (ex. a museum tshirt I have), I don't understand why you would pay extra.

Especially the most basic bitch stuff out there, manufactured by foreign slave labor. Idk, it’s all dumb.

supreme is the supreme example of this tbh

Why would anyone be ashamed of owning a WRX STi?

Why would anyone be ashamed of owning any Subaru?

nothing beats a Subaru in the snow! we're just getting hammered with snow up here and it's no issue for the legacy.

Lol someone went and downvoted all the Subaru-positive comments.

It’s actually a regular wrx with a sti wing and they don’t want anyone to know

Yeah, usually the debadged cars I see around me are 3-series and other entry-level luxury sedans. I think the owners want to try and trick people into thinking they're actually driving an M3, etc.

If you debadge an M3, RS3, etc then I think that's actually a pretty cool flex

I guess it might slightly reduce the chances of getting stolen.

The top reason: the badge fell off for some reason, and I do not care enough to replace it.

Somebody tore the logo off my Honda Accord in a Chicago suburb parking structure

8

Or in my case, half fell off and that just won't do... but then the glue still is half on and now it looks worse, so let's just cover it with a bumper sticker, eh?

1

The weird thing is that the SAAB version, that's supposed to share a lot of parts, had a different wheel base even, because they changed so many things. SAAB being SAAB, they lost money on most 9-3x and 9-5x

It's so that people have a harder time saying "yes officer it was a Toyota Camry" unless they're familiar with the body style enough to know it isn't a Honda Accord without the markings. "A truck" is less descriptive than "A black Dodge Ram 1500."

Look, avoiding Undercovers is half the reason I can tell a car by it's headlights or taillights, so sorry Nissan Altima with paper plates, I can tell you're a 2008 from 150m, day or night.

5

Not everyone is as adept. (And that Altima was probably recently purchased used, tbf lol).

Also I've seen a ~25yo undercover minivan with the paint half worn to primer in my area, that trick is less reliable here since 2010ish.

Subaru owners aren't ashamed of owning a Subaru.

Hell, Subaru gives away additional badges to show all of your personal interests, like hiking, camping, dogs, or how many Subarus you've owned.

They didn't have an LGBT badge, because you're already driving a Subaru

Cybertruck 2025: now with complimentary anti-vandalism Fuck Musk wrap

5

VW debadging started when people would pull the emblem off to make a necklace like the Beastie Boys.

It got so bad that VW started sending badges to anyone who wanted one to stop people stealing them.

But the lack of a badge became stylish and VW owners started doing it on purpose.

There was a dude in Connecticut in the late '90s early 2000s who had a red Mitsubishi 3000 GT.

I drove one for a while myself. It was a great car. If memory serves, it was a straight six with one, maybe even twin turbos? Had the tightest transmission of any car I have driven before or since. It hauled ass and was just fun to drive.

Anyway, this other dude had one and he had taken off all the Mitsubishi badges and logos, and replace them with Ferrari ones. He would wear a Ferrari jacket and a Ferrari hat. I mean every badge, the hood ornament said Ferrari, the wheel caps, I think he even had some yellow racing stripes or maybe even the word Ferrari painted onto it. From a distance it actually looked like a Ferrari, certainly if you didn't know cars you think it was one.

Anyway, I saw him one day walking into a store and I didn't know better to realize he wasn't quite all there, and I asked him, even starting with a compliment, saying hey cool car man, "does it have like a Ferrari engine in it or something?" He gave me the dirtiest look honestly that I think I've ever gotten in my life and said, like "do you want to make something of it?"

And I was just like no man, just thought it looked cool...from a distance.

it comes and goes but some years school age kids will gain a car emblem theft fixation. I lived on the same street as a high school and every second year or so any remaining emblems on cars parked outside would be stripped off

3

Why? You mean a Subaru Impreza WRX? I have an Impreza from before they came out with the WRX, but what's to be ashamed of?

I'm too lazy to do it but the badges added by the dealership. Like you buy a Toyota but the Honda dealership wants everyone to know you bought it at said dealership. I hate those. I'm waiting for the day they just say let's do a full car wrap to make sure your car is a billboard.

2

I make them take it off. Anything that advertises the dealership must go of you want me to buy the car.

1

Ive always wanted to underbadge a sleeper car like a Buick Regal GS or slap malibu badging on a Chevy SS just to make it even more of a sleeper to those that know
