And yet there is so many people thinking they will make an exception for them.

"I'm one of them, surely they will spare me as I'm part of the group, right?"

If we're lucky then Trump dies, there won't really be another cult of personality like him. Even now he's coasting on his old persona, he's just a grumpy old man with limited ability to remember much of anything.

12
lemm.ee

Do you think he would really inspire any kind of loyal following? Feels similar to how they tried to really the troops around Desantis in Trump's absence, shortly before they all started to cannibalize and make fun of him too

1

They don't need that, they already have all three branches, they just need someone who can follow orders and regurgitate project2025.

Nobody's going to be fine. Tariffs on our 3 biggest trade partners are going to raise the prices of nearly everything by 25%

73

Who could possibly have the foresight to know that making things more expensive won’t lower the prices?

If we're lucky.

At least he's not raising the effective tax rate on the bottom 95% of.Americans.... right?

20

You gotta be shitting, right? That’s how he financed the last tax cut for the rich.

5

They will imprison people and make them work the fields.

Weird way to make the economy better for working people. Hmmm

And just like everybody else, you forgot the Native Americans.

You know, the ones that they're trying to remove their citizenship based on some 140-year-old law that has already been superseded by other better law?

52
pelespiritreply

I really, really, don't understand how/why Native Americans are treated so bad. It makes no sense to me. Then their artifacts and regalia will be copied or sold for top dollar. It's insane.

I think it's more about getting revenge on successful casino owners when the carrot in chief has failed multiple casinos.

And also about getting rid of the loudest objectors to all of the oil pipe lines.

Reservation land is typically pretty terrible. I'm from Pine Ridge and that is a fucking poverty hellscape of a place.

Nobody wants to be there.

2
lemm.ee

This goes beyond one president, literally back to the founding of the country. It's not just some grudge held by this particular president. Even Obama has done some heinous shit to natives in regards to their land and rights.

The reservations have always been a set off moving goal posts that have been granted, moved around, and revoked—regardless of how 'good' or 'not good' the land is. The US government (read: capitalism, bc that's what it's always been) wants ALL the land.

1
fedia.io

You...

I really want to insult you right now, but we're literally talking about Trump taking away my native citizenship.

Natives have only been citizens for roughly 100 years,

President Cock smoker is trying to take it away.

Your whataboutism isn't going to keep my family American and out of the detainment camps.

So put that stupid shit in your peace pipe and smoke it.

1

What are you talking about? I'm not defending Trump, or using whataboutism? I'm trying to explain the history of consistent oppression of native peoples. It's unfortunately as old as white people coming here in the first place; Trump is just the latest flavor of awful. This country is literally founded on genocide, and just about every president has partaken.

I live in Oklahoma, my spouse is a tribal member, as is my child. I'm extremely close to the issue and try to make myself as educated on the topic as I can. I also try to educate others, since a lot of people genuinely don't know how far back this shit goes, as our education system deliberately leaves it out. That's what I was trying to do here.

1

I think that society becomes hopeless at some point. Ruled by 5th-generation lizard monsters. You can't fight that.

Attend to the health of your own soul. Cultivate your own garden. Buy a gun.

One of my best friends in childhood was Duwamish, and his family had it rough. Haven't seen him in 50 years, and all that was forgotten come meme-making time. I'm guilty as charged, sorry.

I'm not even in the US and I'm worrying. Especially due to the fact that I'm both Moroccan and queer (specifically aroace). Guess I'm not visiting the US at all during his term.

35

Don't visit us. Don't travel here. They need to understand there's financial consequences to making this country unwelcoming.

43

This is the advice I'm following. And it's really sad because I was so interested in seeing the US in person for a really long time. Now some scumbag came to ruin it all.

I just heard an ad on a podcast inviting me to visit Key West, Florida, which is apparently an LGBT resort paradise.

Not happening, not even if they paid me.

6

I live in the US and I'm also boycotting Florida. We used to go to Disney a couple times a year, and my kids miss it, but I'm not getting accidentally caught up in that crazy.

3

We're never alone. Community is our strength. This is as important right now as ever.

Regular Americans seeking refuge from fascism aren't my enemies though. Rich fuckers hoarding wealth from the working class are.

Ace of hearts here:

At least us ace folk can hide more easily. Nobody knows I'm ace unless I specifically tell them. I don't hide it - it's just not a topic that comes up. I'm just a single dude as far as most people know.

5
lemmy.world

It's not really as easy for me because I've been a victim of sexual harassment quite a few times, mostly by men (I am male). Classmates keep resenting me for "not acting normal" and have accused me of misogyny and being gay. Parents called my asexuality "not normal at all". Hell, my dad accused me of atheism simply for not wanting children. I just can't stand being bullied by society all the time.

7

I'm also ace, but I live with an opposite sex partner, so that helps me look less queer. We're both gender non-conforming (I'm non-binary, he's unlabeled), but that's something we can tone down.

I can't tell if you're in high school or college. Things got easier for me when I moved away for college. I got to figure out who I was, away from my family and people that knew me as a child. I went to an engineering school and it was wonderful to have a bunch of other misfits to hang out with. Looking back, I think my new friend group was very non-neurotypical.

Anyways, I hope you find a good, supportive friend group.

You live in a place where nobody has an issue with not being interested in relationships. But where I live, it's literally a giant problem.

Also, yeah I might not get deported, but I could still face arrest, you know. At this point it's a miracle nobody managed to convince the police that I deserve to be in jail in my country, let alone the US under the new Trump administration.

And I never wanted to immigrate to the US, I just wanted to drop in and say hi, spend time for a few weeks and leave. That alone requires a visa too, you know. And different countries get different amounts of restrictions. I'm just glad I'm not banned from entry altogether. And even then, facing prejudice is still very possible.

You quite literally ruined my day.

Everyone else is fucked. The plutocrats are going to make sure of that.

I've always considered Musk to have the look of the Innsmouth about him; pale clammy skin, wide eyes clumped above his guppy jaw. I hope he will be lured by the ancestral calls and return to the murky depths in due course.

How did we get to this, I thought the progress he have made would have actually stuck in some people's heads (I've voters). Unfortunately, some people don't understand what the progress was for because all they think about are their wallets and control of others

Well, not soon, I hope.

That's my escape route, too. I'm bloody old, and hoping to be dead before the complete collapse of everything. But I'm healthy, and Trump is really floorboarding us toward the end, so...

3

I've apparently seen the best the world has to offer. "Living in the lap of luxury" technology provides (excusing all the nightmares) and I'm not impressed. We can deal with all our external physical needs apparently but lord help us if we try to address the deep hurt and suffering we cause one another everyday.

4

Yeah, society is insane, and was even before Trump and his ilk. Everyone is at least a little fucked-up in the head, and the few people who seem fairly sane are probably just better at hiding their troubles. I've got e-hugs if you need one.

2

hoping to be dead before the complete collapse of everything

Same here. I'm also super-happy to be childless, as I couldn't imagine how it would feel to know that my children will have to face this shit.

2

Judge them not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character, which for both of them is shit.

Nah, Zionist Jews are safe, the christofascists need them for their end of times nonsense.

The antizionist jews are screwed though. But they’ll probably get rounded up with the rest of the political prisoners for being political rather than Jewish.

3

Early every year the seeds are growing / unseen, unheard, they lie beneath the ground. / would you know before their leaves are showing / that with weeds all your garden will abound?

If you close your eyes, stop your ears / shut your mouth how can you know? / The weeds you cannot see may not be there / the seeds you didn't hear my never grow.

In January you still have the choice / you can cut the weeds before they start to bud / if you leave them to grow high, they'll silence your voice / in December, you may pay with your blood.

Close your eyes, stop your ears, /close your mouth and take it slow. / Let others take the lead while you bring up the rear / and later you can say you didn't know.

Every day, another vulture takes flight; / there's another danger born every morning. / In the darkness of your blindness, the beast will learn to bite. / How can you fight when you don't recognize the warning?

Close your eyes, stop your ears / shut your mouth of course you know. / if weeds are let to be without your hand to fear / then what else can be? Of course they'll grow.

Today, you may earn a living wage / tomorrow you may be on the dole / though there's millions going hungry, you needn't disengage; / it's them, not you who's fallen in the hole.

The weeds are all around us and they're growing / it'll soon be too late for the knife / if you leave them on the wind that around this world is blowing / you'll pay for your silence with your life.

So close your eyes, stop your ears, / bite your tongue and don't you dare. / 'cuz if it happens here, they might not come for you / if they're sure you really never cared.

Liberal land is filled totalitarian anti-gun policies

Hate to break it to you but just wanting some good gun law reforms does not make liberal land bereft of guns.

Lots of liberals own firearms. It's just not something we conflate our whole personality around but plenty of people are here who are armed antifascists. Even if they won't call themselves antifa because trump and maga turned that into something it isn't.

5

Democrats arent leftists. They are right leaning centrist neo liberals. Marx said it best; any attempt to disarm the workforce should be frustrated by anymeans including force if necessary.
