Seems like cars are almost never ruled to be at fault when they hit pedestrians, so I'm not sure how much it impacts insurance companies' bottom line.
So NHTSA is pretending to care about pedestrians for the first time in their existence? This is a nice surprise.
Supposedly the cafe standards are based on the wheelbase of vehicles, so they started making vehicles larger to comply. With smaller cars it's harder to meet the cafe standards.
