Why is Atlantica disliked in Kingdom Hearts?

The world gives a nice vertical element to Kingdom Hearts, even if Sora seems a little slower than normal. The ocean world breaks up the style of gameplay enough to give a new and interesting gameplay. But it seems like people don't like it much, why is that?

Kh1 atlantica was a hell hole water level with janky controls, kh2 atlantica was an ungodly abomination of quick time button hitting and cringe Disney sing songs.

I like different kind of gameplay—being able to move in all three dimensions. Of course once you’ve done Peter Pan you’ve got that everywhere.

I also having Ariel on my team. She has some cool moves.

Yeah there is that one place toward the end where there are cave passages with different water flow directions. It can be confusing to figure out which way to go.

The fact that they change the swimming/flying controls every game pisses me off. KH1 had a fine system square to go down, circle to go up. It made sense. Then in KH2 they had to go and change it to right stick for up/down. And finally in KH3 they change it to the triggers for up/down. I preferred the KH1 controls.

The controls... oh dear God the controls. It's almost like they made atlantica as an afterthought with terrible game play

I also enjoy it! But the swimming mechanics are a little tricky at first. I think that might be why some people don't like it.

Might be cause it’s just so different from the rest of the gameplay, and kinda ignores the progression of your skills a bit. I’m sure KH2’s Atlantica did not help its case, either…
