Kyiv claims it has taken control of 82 settlements in the region over an area of 1,150 square kilometers (444 square miles) since the border raid began.

I'm not seeing this being called "liberation" or "special operation" in this article. It's only referred as "incursion".
To be fair one side is a democracy with minimal oppression in times of peace and the other is a full on facist dictatorship.
Clearly they aren’t just words but a matter of perspective.
In this case it's just words. Russians know they are invading foreign lands.

No, the territory occupied by Ukraine is small compared to the territory occupied by Russia.
But it also shows how thin Russia is spread. It's basically an embarrassment to them.
As I can tell, they try to keep media focus on their own offensive and don't want to sacrifice it. Let's see how far it'd go. I feel like ignoring the problem does hurt the trust of people in bordering regions.
