Seems like something that should have been released within the first year of the switches life. Anyone really in the market for something like this at this point in time?
Knowing Nintendo, they would probably make the joycons cross compatible with the Switch 2, and that console will probably not have a way to charge the original joycons due to change in form factor or something. So a product like this might make perfect sense at this time.
Agreed, but this gets me worried about it being handheld or not. The current design is perfect for me.
What do you mean? Are you worried that it will be a portable or a plugin only console? Having this charger suggests that their next system will be a TV connected console (since a portable is mostly going to constantly be charging its controllers), but it doesn't have to be exclusive.
Or its compatible with joycons but you cannot connect them to the sides (new cons or constantly connected controls?)
The hybrid device route was so successful I doubt they will abandon it.
As someone looking for something like this a few months ago and a friend after buying a switch last year also ordering the same thing as me, yes, most definitely there are lots of people who would want this.
They made one originally, it baffles me that it wasn't the only version of the original grip.

I have a charger that can charge up to four controllers for years now.
Exactly what i was thinking, at this point i've already bought a 3rd party joycon charger. It does look nice and convenient, maybe we can even use the controllers while charging.
They released a regular joycon grip that could charger them basically right away. I don't know why it wasn't the standard one, but it got discontinued eventually.
For $15 you can buy a stand that charges 4 joycons and includes LED indicators.

I like that the charger doubles as a controller grip, since I only have the one the console came with but have a second set of Joycons. I am curious if it is comfortable to use.
Seems the same size as the JoyCon grip.
But without the hand grips, i bet it's going to be uncomfortable for all but the smallest of hands
It'll feel like playing undocked, I would imagine.
