It’s possible it’s one, the other, or both. Some people find basic knowledge in multiple fields to be more useful than expert knowledge in one.

TBF, basic knowledge in many fields probably is more useful on a day to day basis than having expert knowledge of most anything. Knowing carpentry super well but not having any electrical knowledge means you're calling an electrician for everything.
