I've seen some general dissatisfaction around finding communities, would having the search also check for matching keywords in the community descriptions improve things?

I'm just floating an idea that someone inspired in a comment section elsewhere, it sounds like an improvement to me but maybe people don't like this idea, tell me what you think.

I think that would be great. However, the issue for me isn't so much finding it as it being really annoying to actually subscribe.

Yep, I have no idea why I can or cannot subscribe to one or the other community. I really want to support these communities by adding content and commenting.

Wait, it doesn't do that already? All this time I've been searching for communities assuming the search also looks into the description.

That would absolutely help, finding communities is still very fiddly.

In my opinion, it would be best to search in the following order:

  • Title of the community
  • Description of the community
  • Topics within the community with the keywords

An example would be the following listing for the keyword "film"

Result for "film"type
filmmakerscommunity
analog filmcommunity
film shooterscommunity
film recommendations?community
movie recommendationsdescription
shoot analogdescription
TVdescription
TILcomments
Artscomments

Yes, I think that would help. Ideally there would be a check box option to enable or disable that feature.
