I completely agree. Sorting my All and new can be a bit overwhelming but local and All is great. I’ve found so many communities that way and stuff that has made me laugh I wouldn’t have seen any other way

Browsing Local by New is 10x more interesting than browsing by Active | Spyke
That's what I've discovered as well. The active sort tends to stay the same for me for hours and hours and hours
In Jerboa you can set the default sort mode in settings. I assume you can do the same on the web site.

Sorting by Hot also works pretty well, good mix of new posts and popular ones
I dont think so, I've never seen an instance that doesnt sort by active by default
doubt it, but users can set their default sort type from active to new in the settings
