First time out of the nest on my front porch. Any idea on species (north of Denver, Colorado, USA)
Its call is a bit like a tea kettle coming to a boil.

I might be wrong but that looks like a house finch to me.
I was thinking last night that it the baby bird looks quite a bit different than mama bird (see uploaded photo). The baby birds I saw last year were more like little puffballs.
