Dude has a point though. In cinemas in the Netherlands you can just buy big ass beer bottles anyway so what's the bfd

Having a large beer vs getting very drunk on liquor is quite different, no?

We have movie theaters here in the US that let you buy and drink alcohol too.

Alamo Drafthouse is the superior movie watching experience. Also if that dad talked to you like OP, you could get him kicked out!

I am not generally a movie goer. I prefer watching at home where I control the temperature, food, volume, company, and amount of floor stickiness.

That being said, my friends drug me to the Alamo Drafthouse a couple of years ago to catch a movie and I LOVE that place. It's comfortable, the food is edible (not great, but not gross), and I can get completely schnookered while watching their throwback movies or the graveyard shift.

So now I actually hit the theater from time to time.

I won’t even watch a movie out anymore if I can’t have a beer or three in the theater :p

Yours might be the best (and/or most concerning) username I've encountered here so far :)

Since allegedly the whole cinema was full of "parents and children", it clearly was a afternoon screening.

Like, just go to a late screening if you want to drink?

Same in California theaters and some in Arizona that I can confirm, probably all over the US tbh.

Proof of this greentext being fake and OP was paying more attention to the dad than the movie, proof of OP being gay.

Literally no. Cinemark theaters AND Alamo drafthouse in Socal, most if not all pretty much have beer on tap and bottled/canned and I can confirm Cinemark even has wines, they just card you when you order. Just go to their website and check. I was there (cinemark) this past weekend to see imaginary, inspite of its poor reviews I enjoyed it for what it was. Alamo draft house theaters only card you when you order alcohol too, I recommend them, their food is actually great too.

I know op wasn't in one of those theaters I was just making the classic 4chan fake and gay joke.

Huh, cool!

My area is a bit more puritan, and I think they're required by law to be separate entities, so I guess I assumed that was pretty consistent nationwide.

Probably was just mad he was't sharing. Why else would he sit next to him?

I know there is some shady shit going on in the background. What I don't know is why.

I agree. Is in not universally accepted that Nick is clearly the hottest?

I’m so used to greentexts being sincerely pathetic that it flew right past me. My bad!

It’s possible to know about something for years and still be freaked out when it shows up.

It's also always possible to be part of the lucky 10,000. Feel free to ask if you want to learn more about Rule 34 or goatse, I'm sure someone will be along shortly with some educational material. :)

No matter one's views on drinking at a cinema...

The dad's an idiot. How the fuck are kids going to realize that's booze in a dark theatre, especially if their dad is between them? He ruined the experience for his kids by constantly drawing attention and letting the kids realize something was up, not Drunky Anon

50
LotrOrcreply
lemmy.world

Depending on the booze you can tell -- if he's taking swigs of vodka or whiskey it's pretty easy to know

6

And he was taking chugs, aaaand ended drunk, so it wasn't beer. Also, the smell.

5

In fairness I did watch a movie in a disney cinema once that actually had a bar, drinking my long island iced tea during the movie was a great experience.

19

After the "Quiet on Set" drop, and Nickelodeon not being nearly as wealthy, anon probably has a good point about Jessica Rabbit.

17

I went to see Zootopia and the only complaint I heard was from a little girl who I could clearly hear asking their mom "why does that old man not have any kids?" and proceed to say "maybe he's in the wrong room. We should tell him." 😑

1
lemm.ee

Im just gonna hope theres different world cultures clashing here because doing this in the US or Canada WOULD be a dick move. Drinking in ANY theater if it wasnt catered to that is rude enough as it is here, but doing at a kids movie is particularly egregious .

Edit: Lmao, right, I'm on greentext, that explains a lot

What? Why is it an issue to drink anywhere so long as you're keeping yourself to yourself and not causing an issue? America, land of the free....

18

Well it is literally illegal most places, although most people don't care enough to enforce that rigidly.

-1

Yeah, in eastern Europe (or at least when I grew up, which was after the communist regime btw) it was kind of normal to give beer (idk if anyone was doing something harder but if they were stupid enough then maybe) to your kid to shut them up, I know bad parenting and it definitely fucked me up for life, but it sure is normal when I look at the state of this country I live in

4

Unless you are being belligerent, I don't give a shit what you're drinking.

10
lemmy.world

I agree with the parent. Alcohol shouldn't be normalized as other drugs and the anon is probably an alcoholic -- who else drinks in a cinema on a Disney movie?

-11

Yeah because it's good idea to just pretend like no one has any problems in life if it's front of the precious children. I will drink in the damn movie theater

6

They sell alcohol in the theaters here, so as long as your old enough you can drink in any film showing

6

I'm sober for a year now. Yeah don't normalize it, but mind your own business.

5

Shut the fuck up and mind your own damn business if no one's being belligerent.

Alcohol is one of the most destructive narcotics. Read ANY scientific paper on this.

-1
lemmy.dbzer0.com

And yet it's the most common and socially accepted drug other than maybe caffiene?

Alcohol is very normal

2
33550336reply
lemmy.world

That's the problem -- it is popular and considered "normal" because of historical reasons. Science says completely otherwise. Sometimes common sense is wrong. Science is wrong very rarely and if so, corrects itself after some time. Read abstract of any article about alkcohol, e.g., from The Lancet journal.

Science says completely otherwise

The only science relevant to if something is "normal" in this context are the social sciences, which would very much not say otherwise

Human consumption of alcohol is older than society, it's very normal and natural for humans to drink. We're not even the only animal aware of alcohol and it's effects

2

Well, only if you disregard your health completely. And speaking about social issues:

"Even moderate drinking by parents can leave children feeling embarrassed or worried or lead to their bedtime being disrupted, according to the study led by the Institute of Alcohol Studies (IAS). "

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2017/oct/18/even-moderate-drinking-by-parents-can-upset-children-study

Alcohol cannot be defended from any position, just as cigarettes, even if fortunes are spent by alcoholic and tabacco corporations to "warm" their picture.

Did you read the bit at the bottom before commenting on your outrage? OP was basically saying that they'll turn out like he did.

Downvotes don't always mean that voters are taking the side you're against.
