“Metal fans like to headbang a lot, so they’re not necessarily bouncing,” Tepp added. “It might just be that the ways in which they move don’t create as strong of a signal.”

Bouncing around is probably not feasible for Metallica fans. Their mobility aids are gonna be a real hindrance.
Haha, leave my walker out of this! It probably has something to do with pop music having insanely heavy bass, while metal does not.
The article claims it's the fans, not the music.
Metal fans don't tend to be as bouncy as pop fans. At least not up/down jumping bouncy

It's more that what has defined 'metal' has moved far away from it was in the 80s.
Which isn't really surprising considering how much what defined 'rock' had changed between the 50s and the 80s.
Also, this is the west coast we're talking about. They don't go hard in general. :P
Seriously, though, I felt like a wallflower on the east coast and then a Tasmanian Devil on the west coast, when my own behavior didn't really change. The energy is different!
Edit: I was referring specifically to my experience at metal concerts, but now that I think about it, also in general.
