"Why I'm no longer a White Nationalist." Neoreactionary blogger goes to live in Red America just like he always dreamed. What followed will shock you!

"Walt Bismarck," a neoreactionary/alt-right blogger, decided to live by his beliefs and move from the liberal hellhole of Arizona to the midwest:

In 2018 I moved from a racially diverse swing state in the Sun Belt to a homogenous red state up in corn country. This decision was largely motivated by politics—I was looking to retreat to an imagined hyperborea free of crime and degeneracy where my volk had political autonomy.

The particular delight here is the section "Reason #3 - White people are no longer my most important ingroup".

It turns out they don't like him, they don't like his ideas, and the white womenfolk don't take to him. The frauleins prefer "stoic chudbots with rough hands and smooth brains" over his noble mind and physique.

In practice a society that encourages late marriage is actually much better for more bookish eccentric guys, who tend to be late bloomers in developing their masculinity and ability to seduce women.

(meaning: he came on weird at one of the nice church girls he was ogling to the point where one of her large guy friends suggested he take his leave.)

Our guy comes so close to introspection, but successfully evades it and reaches the root cause - these are the wrong kind of white people:

But these Midwesterners aren’t descended from entrepreneurial adventurers like the rest of us. Their forebears were conflict averse and probably low testosterone German Catholics who fled Bismarck’s kulturkampf to acquire cheap land under the Homestead Act. These people mostly settled areas where aggro Scotch Irish types had driven off the Injun decades ago, so they never had to embrace the risk-tolerant, enterprising, itinerant mindset that had once fueled Manifest Destiny. Instead they produced families that became weirdly attached to their generic little plot of fungible prairie dirt, and as a result we now have huge pockets of the country full of overcivilized and effete Teutons with no conquering spirit who treat outsiders like shit.

There is no shortage of genuine and active neo-Nazis out Iowa way. But they would have met Wordy NRx Boy here and flushed his head.

In the comments section, other racists call him out on his insufficient devotion to the cause of white nationalism.

Even our good friends at The Motte took the piss out of him.

The illustrations are, of course, AI-generated.

This was worse than I imagined from the quotes. I feel like I need to take a shower, now.

[...] which would severely limit the Federal Reserve’s ability to control the economy while exporting inflation abroad, and likely bring our material standard of living down to a German or Dutch level

According to this Quality of Life index which I just searched up and have not critically assessed, but I doubt the guy did that either for his claims, so I guess it's fine, the Netherlands rank second and Germany ranks 12th, while the US is on the 15th place. In other words: what is he even talking about?

Every day in this country more and more Hispanics marry corn-fed blonde midwesterners and produce pale Castizo children who only speak English, consider themselves basically White, and vote like Irish and Italians.

Jesus fucking Christ, I can't even come up with a funny sneer here because this reads like he just pulled it out of the 1940s Nazi Party's bag of race laws for who's allowed to marry whom, and it's making me feel icky.

I also subscribe to the old fascist idea that adversity gives life meaning. A comfortable and easy life without struggle or conflict is miserable, and just makes you a slave to the hedonic treadmill. When you live for pleasure, no pleasure is ever enough, and continued success will just leave you so pampered that any task that’s challenging or outside your comfort zone will begin to feel onerous.

Ignoring the low-hanging fruit that this guy just flat-out said "well, fascism wasn't all bad", what kind of toxic consumer mentality is ingrained in these chucklefucks that they are seemingly unable so sit their sorry asses down on the couch and just say, yeah, I'm happy right now, to the point where they just postulate that other people must feel the same way, because they just can't imagine anyone being different?

Like, seriously, get a hobby or something.

always love* it when these guys get so race scientist they start on different groups of white people

55
kbin.social

This is fundamentally a part of any kind of race science or racism.

This is also what it means when the antiracists say race is a social construct.

You can't actually define any of these races rigorously in the first place. It's a subjective assessment. The racists define race backwards from tribe in order to categorize the people they hate as physically different to justify their hate

36

This is fundamentally a part of any kind of race science or racism.

And fascism! Or any discriminatory -ism, up to and including capitalism.

15

@dgerard Whiteness is a movable feast. (Ask anyone who's Jewish, or LGBT+, or Italian/Irish in the USA in the 19th century or Hispanic in the USA before/after the 1970s).

30

Ayuuuuuuuup. Movable feast is a great term for it. Even once formerly ostracized groups get permitted into the in-group, their membership is strictly conditional on serving the interests of those closer into the center of the Whiteness construct. Stop being useful, watch how fast the old hate rears its ugly head again.

19

His glowing reference to the "aggro Scots Irish" reminded me that the "Scots Irish" are descended from Ulster Protestants, and that it wasn't fun being an Irish Catholic in Northern Ireland for much of the 20th century. Ian Paisley famously said that Catholics "breed like rabbits".

Then the first comment on the blog mentions how sad it is that you lose your "genetic whiteness" in 9 generations and just..goddamn...why is this an issue? Genetic purity is a fucking impossibility due to sheer randomness, let alone the implications of "keeping it white."

This is a kind of obvious folklore fact as well as actually true, that inbreeding (you seem to be referring to) causes worse intelligence. Because I believe I am right, I would on principle object to getting someone who is less easy to convince of my world view as an option, even if someone else gets to indoctrinate them first. It's obviously a cynical post but this is just unfair to the nonexistent inbred kids you're hypothesizing

For real. Why does the fact his life is comfortable mean he has to become a Nazi? :/

He’ll be judging standard of living by raw GDP/PPP per capita, where the US does indeed notoriously outperform everybody by an absurd margin. This does the rounds even on the “serious” econ net every few months, and it’s always the same paper thin sophistic ideas going back and forth arguing whether it’s telling you something meaningful about euro vs us living. In any case a good portion of self-assessed intellectual types have been drowning in that debate for about two decades (or more) so it’s always easy to spot lurking in the background: it’s a shibboleth for people who’ve self-educated on development by reading blogs.

17
froztbytereply

"isn't higher" than what? the GDP figures from your own link there indicate the US is among the highest. the only ones above it in the 2023 figures are Luxembourg, Ireland, Switzerland, Norway, Singapore, Qatar (each of which is singularly notable for a particular thing in their respective markets) - thus placing the US GDP figures ahead of literally every remaining country

There's a difference in having a personality that gets easily bored of luxury and believing conflict is what inherently gives life a meaning. Maus puts it: "Suffering doesn't make people better, it just makes them suffer"

If someone's life is so damn easy and hedonistic they're actually getting bored of it, there are good ways and bad ways of introducing adversity and getting out of your comfort zone. The negation of being a slave to the hedonic treadmill[1] is not an eternal war for domination.

1: A strange figure of speech, who the hell thinks treadmills are hedonistic?

13

Ok so suffering wasn't mentioned before, you brought that in. Struggle or conflict was. It's just basically a Captain Kirk speech on humanity.

Agreed, though, that a lot of white Americans are kind of like hobbits, in their lack of antibodies against general blank slatism, outgroup preferences, and progressive American culture. They might make a stink face at the young white male cosmopolitan who arrives in town for an extended study abroad program, but will root for outsiders and people that hate them when it comes to college football/basketball, the NFL, the NBA. Quokka would be the rationalist sphere term of art, here. “Cucks” might even apply. Relatedly, this has been touched upon in the Norf FC series of memes with regard to whites on the other side of the pond.

It's the Motte special. Comments that are structurally culture critiques, but functionally a Turner Diaries summary.

15
lemmy.world

Agreed. This person is basically just discovering he doesn't actually like people in a general sense and he can't use the self gaslighting notion of skin color to pretend there's people out there he actually likes. His window of acceptable is so small he's practically the only one who can squeeze through.

In part he can't let go of whiteness as a label and synonym of superiority so when he finds a version of whiteness he finds subpar and unworthy by his own veiws of what it should be he compares that version of whiteness to... (checks notes) the Ming dynasty Chinese. He starts describing everything in what has been trained into him as language describing the inferior.

All he ever really wanted was to be openly horrible to everyone with little to no consequences... Because kindness and empathy is just not something he understands. If it doesn't serve him directly it's trash. It's easy to pretend to an in-group when you just shout the same nonsense and get rewarded with pats on the back for playing along, but that doesn't translate to people legitimately caring about you. It's not actual empathy and human connection. It's just reciprocity. The minute you stop playing tit-for-tat in a reciprocity based movement for any reason you get abandoned. This guy is so far along that pipeline that he can't leave and can't distinguish the human in anyone. It's sad.

14
Holyginzreply
lemmy.world

Completely agree. But while it is sad, at the same time I also am starting to lose empathy for them because they get to a point where they start to just want everyone to be miserable like they are. And when you get enough of them, they can start doing some real damage.

8

Yeah.. I don't mean sad in a "I want to make taking on their bullshit and trying to redeem them my personal project" kind of way. They desire empathy and I can understand where they come from (even if it's grounded in evil bullshit) but babystepping them bit by bit into being reasonable to be around is gunna light whomever tries to do it's mental health on fire.

I do not afford them empathy. Saying that I understand and feel the situation is sad isn't pathos. They made this bed through a series of conscious choices and there is a human cost to believing what they believe that is unconscionable. I am simply sad that the situation has progressed to this.

11

He's (very wordly) paraphrasing the common esoteric right wing belif that anti-racism is a belief only truly held by whites, and that it is simultaneously the contemporary western white's only mistake.

A cousin from the same parent thread goes a step further and claims that whites...

I think he seems to have realized a terrible truth for a lot of WNs who are deeply used to their particular kind of persecution complex and enemy hierarchy, which is that much of the state of the modern west is a direct product of the ‘white temperament’ and white population preferences, possibly on a genetic level.

I made it a lot farther before I just couldn't anymore. I was kinda hoping for some kind of real self-reflection or ability to further understand the mindset of people like him but it's just the same "sigma grindset" bullshit they always spout.

16

TL;DR: "I'm no longer a white nationalist because a lot of white people are cucked. Now my new identity is with sufficiently pilled white people. This is much more pragmatic. Also I would totally have a cool black friend if any actually existed which means I'm totally not racist."

Also: did anyone else feel a chill reading about a literal nazi talking about how society accepts him now? America used to despise nazis and now they feel like they can walk around openly. It's terrifying.

55

I reacted to that too, "no need to be an overt WN now that society accepts us!" but I think that's partly bravado.

For example, he loves Twitter now but Elon still hasn't given his account back...

9
lemm.ee

That right there illustrates what that comment actually means. As a man, I'm assuming you are because of the context of being just straight enough to understand this, traditional society has created this expectation of manliness. That includes having an emotional, and especially a sexual, barrier against other men.

This expectation is not socially present in women. So it's "ok" from a social standpoint to be a woman into women, but it violates manliness protocol for a man to be into men.

What this guy in the original comment is demonstrating is that he is entirely beholden to traditional social protocol, and he's making the comparison, somewhat ironically, that being far right is viewed as a violation of the same social expectations while being far left isn't.

14

No, you just don't understand. The real punks want to codify existing social and sexual norms into inviolable legally enforced rules backed by state violence.

11

Just to underscore this, the Bible explicitly condemns male-on-male homosexuality and doesn't even mention female-on-female.

Although a true white chad society like ancient Greece understands that there's nothing more manly than the love between two men.

5
lemmy.ml

You're lucky that you don't know all the fucked stereotypes going into this. If you really wanna know, I'm pretty sure it's:

  • parts of mainstream society is only homophobic against gay behavior in men
  • gay behavior in women instead “doesn't count”, or “isn't serious”
  • therefore people thinking like this will accept a women “coming out of a lesbian phase” whereas they look down upon men who didn't behave 100% heterosexual

E: also themotte mentions the 'alt light' (not by name) but I heard a rumor that apparently a lot of these yt alt light people were paid by shady people to make rightwing content. The YT'er (sorry if you know any of those) chrisraygun apparently revealed it, but I have not looked into it at all.

No clue whatsoever, but I got the impression from the way they were talking about this guy, that they are basically sophisticated fascists and reactionaries.

it's wordy Nazis debating things

That context means almost nothing to me. I'm not familiar with those actors either. But I can understand "wordy nazis" at least 😅

Kind of off topic, but this piece of wall to wall insanity reminded me how Steven Pinker tried to explain away southern US crime rates that didn't fit with his Violence Is Declining And In Fact Everything's Improving Inexorably (As Long As You Don't Rock The Boat) thesis by randomly blaming irish-catholic sheepherder genealogy.

White nationalists learning about the actual history of European immigration to the US and which groups came in at which times is some of the funniest shit overall. "It's... it's all bullshit? They just kept changing what whiteness meant every year? They still do? :O" Also, props for moving to the Midwest without needing to save money

20

I'm always very nonplussed about what claims to pass for thought in white nationalist crowds.

The stopped-clock moment in this whole is definitely where he dimly grasps that Republican audiences are way more openly positive to white nationalism than they were.

So I've never heard of (or maybe I've forgotten about) The Motte. It seems to claim to be a sort of "rational discussion is welcome no matter your viewpoint" kind of place, but IME places that go out of their way to tell you that in THIS many words, are actually "we welcome right-wing views under the guise of welcoming everyone's views, but really we would like some right wing views to be posted."

What is this place?

This website is a place for people who want to move past shady thinking and test their ideas in a court of people who don't all share the same biases. Our goal is to optimize for light, not heat; this is a group effort, and all commentators are asked to do their part.

The weekly Culture War threads host the most controversial topics and are the most visible aspect of The Motte. However, many other topics are appropriate here. We encourage people to post anything related to science, politics, or philosophy; if in doubt, post!

They've got a long list of rules in the sidebar, none of which seem to be "bigotry not welcome."

My question - am I getting the wrong idea because I just read that one thread (which seems mostly right wing folks) or is it indeed yet another "We claim to be for everyone as our cover, but we're really for the right" kind of a place?

16
awful.systems

it is indeed a place for rational and reasoned discussion of why the fourteen words are correct, yes.

21

Ah very well. (Edit - morbid curiosity drove me to read the thread on hip hop. Yeesh. I shoulda just done that before I asked.)

Jesus fuck, I hate myself so I couldn't help but take a peek. The first comment says "TL;DR but I will still counterargue!" The OP then responds "that's stupid" and gets slapped by the admin for personal attacks. So basically, you can make personal attacks if your account has a history of agreeing with the zeitgeist and you veil them behind enough qualifiers. What an absolute joke of a message board.

10

I think some of them truly believe that more words makes their comment smarter, too. At one point I was thinking "there's no way your misinformed opinions regarding cherrypicked hiphop examples and open musings about how unfair it is not to be able to say the n-word could possibly require that wordcount."

I also noticed there was no hesitation about using n-word uncensored within the comment.

8
lemmy.ml

I warn you it's not even good rage bait. It's a bunch of folks who think they know the entire breadth of what comes under the category of hiphop but cherrypick a few specific styles and examples to paint it all with a very broad brush. Their analysis even of the songs they specify is remarkably superficial, as is their view of the entire genre.

When I reached the inevitable "they can say the N word but we can't" pontification I stopped reading.

8

Well shit, let me know if you post, I might pop some popcorn and go back to the thread to watch.

7

In addition to what David said the motto is also a spinoff of Slatestarscodex reddit, where they had a 'culture war' thread which was a containment thread for the culture war topics (which is a bad idea, containment threads cause spillover in the rest of the community (see for example discords with 'everything goes' meme channels or the ur example /pol/), which was spin off from the subreddit because it was getting so bad. Scott (slatestarcodex) played the game of cryptoneoreactionary 'sorry you feel that way' disavowal of the thread but still vague endorsed themotte.

I'm still annoyed I didn't take screenshots of the replies on themotte trying to recruit people into blood and soil (a neo-nazi term if you are not up to that terminology) homesteading community. I still wonder if they deleted their own reply, themotte mods did it (doubtful as they seem to be very into also leaving mod messages for transparancy) or if it was the reddit admins.

Anyway, the place sucks, and basically anything vile goes there if you use enough words, references, and are vague enough about it. (So don't say 'I want to kill people who cheat' you write a 4000k word post on your ideal society which includes references to capital punishment for cuckolds).

Whenever I find something like this from an author I haven't heard of before, I try to look them up to make sure I'm not being ragebaited by an imaginary person for the sake of ad revenue(although being hosted archive.org makes that mostly moot). Holyshit, this guy use to make Alt-right disney parodies and was proud enough to upload them. OneyPlays rips into the guy here. This guy is a perfect parody of alt-right smooth brainlessness. No wonder he thinks stereotypes are real. He's a living one.

So this guy had to regress back to before non-english types got their white card, got it 😂

Gross. White nationalists should be called what they are, bigots made of dog excrement. Their ancestors would not just be totally ashamed of them, but would actively disown them in every possible way. They are not what represents America and it's ideals, but the exact opposite; they represent horror, hate, subtraction, and misery.

I think the reason they behave like they do is because their own personal lives are so miserable. It's no surprise they have bad relationships and can't get along with reasonable people.

Anyway I wish there was a separate, walled-off island where they could all go and shoot at each other indiscriminately and hang each other from trees over stupid minor differences. If that's what they want, the live in utter hell, then that's exactly what they so richly deserve to have.

8
lemmy.world

If you don't think white supremacy and nationalism represents American ideals I've got a reality check for you. It absolutely does and there has never been a time when that wasn't true. "Our" country was built on horror, hate, subtraction, and misery.

11
kbin.social

Maybe I should have said, white supremacy and nationalist don't represent what the dream of America is SUPPOSED to be about. I'm not naive, I'm well aware that unfortunately those things do represent a hell of lot of what's happened here.

All too true that our country was built on a history of violence, displacement, and mistreatment of others, and that's something we need to not erase or forget about, but keep reminding ourselves of so we don't repeat the horrors of the past.

I do agree with you on all the points you're making.

5
lemmy.world

I think I know what you mean when you say that but I think you're still saying basically the same thing. The so called American dream is based on those horrific and violent ideals. We need to go back much farther in our history or look into the history of others if we want to find a time that we had uncorrupted or rather non selfish values. I'm still not sure it ever existed, it certainly hasn't in this "country". What I am sure of is that we can make a better future with or without the outdated notions of American ideals .

4
kbin.social

Agreed and let's hope we do build a better future despite the horrors of our past.

Thanks - my heart's in the right place, I just have to get the rest of me there somehow. Sorry for going off, but it was something I felt needed saying.

I love it there's a comment attacking him for not wanting to preserve the white race. "The fuck's the matter with you?

I can understand if you're a mestizo groyper who just wants to do what's right and to live in a generically-good society, but if you're a white man of competence, you have a duty to do what you can ensure the long-term survival of your heritage.

Of children born to at least one white parent, only 80% are racially pure"

Also amazed me re protests, far right prepping for protests: 'we should train how to march or hold a shield wall'. Far left: 'here is a guide on how to deal with common injuries, we should have people as medics, and provide some snacks, drinks, and guidance for people on what to do when they get kettled/arrested'.

you can go all pseudo-evolutionary and argue that the Midwest is bland and unadventurous because all the people with vim and drive fucked off to the coasts to bang "art hoes" and make money, leaving only the tillers of the soil left to breed among themselves. But that would upset his bizarre ideas of white people sticking to themselves.

He's more of a rootless cosmopolitan than he perhaps cares to realize.
