How do I browse an instance that I am not signed into?

I am currently logged into my account on lemmy.world. I'd like to view the home page of literature.cafe (or any other instance), view all the communities there etc.

I could just tap on the instance name, or even add instances that I wasn't signed in to on liftoff which no longer works.

Is there a way to do this on voyager?

Yes sign in without username/pw.

It will show top communities including federated though (I have plans to filter by top local-only communities), but you can still view the local feed etc!

Thanks!

In case you're taking feature requests: It would be great if there was an option to view any instance without having to actually create an account.

Maybe I'm missing something - you can do that by signing in without username/pw. 🤔

Oh wow, thanks for the tip, I did not know that! I was able to reach the "connect as guest" button by trying to login without entering a username/password.

That was pretty much all I was looking for. Maybe the option could be presented in an earlier screen along with the sign up and log in options too help others discover the functionality?

I'm good though, thanks!

I like the idea of being able to add guest accounts for this same purpose. Having an option in the Accounts window I think would make the most sense.

Voyager has guest accounts. Just sign in without username/pw

Ah! Thank you! Might be nice to have that as a tip on the login screen or even “leave blank for guest” for the alt text in the username field.

np. I thought about it, but I struggled to find a solution that didn't increase the complexity of the UI for users brand new to fediverse/lemmy. The #1 priority of the login/signup flow is straightforward UX, and I am willing to sacrifice usability of power users for that.

One of my pet peeves with fediverse signup and login flows in general is information overload.
