Your fantasy favorites and why?
Pretty self-explanitory. I love Twilight, Harry Potter; and the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini! I can’t wait to finish the last book in the series and to see what Disney Plus does with the series. It’s gotta be better than that thing we don’t talk about. Lol. As far as Twilight goes, I’m team Alice. I won’t judge if you’re not, though. Haha. My favorite book in that series is probably the first, just because that’s the most mysterious. Favorite movie is probably Breaking Dawn 2, because I love Renesmee and I love/hate the battle at the end. Harry Potter is tricky. Love all the books and movies for different reasons, but my least favorites are Half-Blood Prince and Goblet of Fire. The ladder because insert the infamous “Dumbledore asked calmly” meme here and also, it just had a lot of unnecessary dragon stuff. And property damage. Half-Blood Prince is because it hardly focused on who the prince was. It was all about relationships and the romance. Also, the random destruction of the Weasley house made no sense to me. So anyway, what about y’all?
Robin Hobb's Realm of the Elderlings specifically the Fitz books impacted me more than any of the other epic series I've read. There's something about the much focus being in the entire life of one person.
Stormlight may one day become my favorite.
Ooh!!! I must check these out!!!
While I'm a bit more of a SciFi girl, I loved Skulduggery Pleasant and Harry Potter growing up. More recently I've really been enjoying Brandon Sanderson's 'The Way of Kings' series. Despite the size of the books I generally haven't been feeling bogged down while reading it. I failed to get into The Wheel of Time for that reason.
I’m gonna have to check out Brandon sanders. After I’m done with Inheritance, that is.
He's pretty prolific - a very speedy fantasy writer (which is pretty rate) that also generally writes stuff that people love. Most/all of his books are above a 4 star average on Goodreads.
Oh perfect!!!!
Some favs of mine would be The Dying Earth, Fafhrd & Grey Mouser, Malazan, City of Stairs, the Riftwar series, Kings of the Wyld, Monk & Robot, and the Goblin Emperor and it's Witness spinoffs. I could go on and on but that's good for now.
Never even knew these existed.
"Over The Garden Wall" is my favorite fantasy animation. Mystical & whimsical, got a special mood.
Bookwise I like "Neverwhere", also mystical & whimsical. I guess that's my theme. And I recommend the first 3 books of "Lightbringer" series, but avoid the last two. Cool magic, charismatic characters.
Latest favorite is "The Dragon Prince" Netflix series. Wholesome fantasy where the characters are really likeable and the voice actors phenomenal. 1st time I dropped it because the 3d animation is kinda bad, and the intro set-up is so so, but 2nd time I binged it.
Never seen it. I love dragons, though so I might check it out.
Sounds like some really awesome books!!!! I need to check them out, too, I think.
Oh I will. Thanks!
Right now, I’ve been working my way through Brandon Sanderson’s “Mistborn” series - I’m on the second to last book! Ironically, I actually finished the last book first because I didn’t know anything about the series, but it is INCREDIBLY good. The magic systems are very interesting and is great D&D inspiration!
Ooh!!!! Nice!!!! I like different magic systems.
I'm currently reading the First Law trilogy for the first time. It was always Harry Potter that got me into fantasy but I really fell of of reading once I started college. I finished the Mistborn trilogy and that got me back to reading but I am definitely not burning through books like I use to.
I definitely don’t burn through books like I once did, either. That said, Harry Potter was my first true fantasy book I think.
