Chuuuuuuu
Whoever is chanting from our section, I love them. "YOU JUST GOT YEIMARD!!"
Ha, thought i heard that earlier!
And "you had one job" if I heard that right?
Instant legend.
As I've always said, our team is amazing on set pieces.
Nico - Jackson - Chu both times, right? Seems like kicking it to the huge centerback may be a good strategy...
I thought I was the sarcastic one here.
How are you watching tonight? For me: on my phone, at a DubSea Fish Sticks game, then home for the second half!
At home, on the laptop, because the TV room is in the middle of getting painted.
Lol, the broadcast just did the FT banner early.
Glad to see the Sounders pull out the win!
Lineups posted. Alex gets the start. Go Sounders!
Thanks everyone for the inaugural match thread! I was a little worried I'd be in here by myself. But couldn't have picked a better match.
Hopefully the first of many and more to join as the community grows!
Heyyyyyyy
AB looks gigantic next to that ref
Make-up red?
In any case, it's there for the taking now
What a wacky little chip from Rusnak to Chu
Great save!
Really a luxury backup GK
Yeah, I kind of hope he finds a team where he can play more. He's too good to sit on a bench. Depends how much longer Frei plays, I guess.
Embarrassment of riches
Not a bad lineup
Every match I look at the lineup and think, "well, we're missing some players, but this lineup should be able to win!". But yet...
Here's hoping that Alex can take more advantage of the space that Nico leaves while roaming out of the right wing. I thought that the roaming Nico was actually working pretty well in the early parts of last match as Baker was staying much farther forward. Same thing when RBW came on late, but the final pass was missing. Maybe Alex's return is the missing link?
That was some great distribution from Cleveland
Have they ever experimented with Chu at forward?
No, but I hope they done. There's no one better on winger than him right now.
FUCK YEAH
What was I saying about set pieces?!
Halftime stats per FotMob
LEO AGAIN!!!
Chú Chú!
If only we had another fast, dangerous winger to balance out Chu
If only MLS obeyed the international breaks...
MLS can't make money off international breaks.
Well this was a fun thread y’all. Real “drinking in my living room” vibes with like 3 other people here 😂
For sure, love the positivity
IM FIROUS AT HOW AMAZING THAT SAVE WAS!!
And then a nice last ditch clearance to deny Raul...
Oh Nouhou. Such a good run on the counter. Such poor vision once he gets the ball
It's truly disgusting how much Vancouver seems to accomplish with such little possession.
I would say good counterattacking but that was just horrific defending. The whole spine of the defense asleep at the switch
Alex and Reagan just like “Yeimar won’t get boxed out of that header we’re fine”
Jackson has to be better there
Chu’s ability to miraculously get by the outside back is very good
YEEIIIIMMMMAAAAARRRRRRR
And three set piece goals to shut me up
That brings up our total set piece goals this season up to .. 3?
Oh come on.
Saint Stefan the Younger!
Look at that :)
I'm just going to post stuff and see if anyone shows up!
I love that chant "Cleveland Rocks!"
Come on, hat trick Chú!
And we're off!
Good chance there - another great run by Chu and great delivery. That's a tough header from that far out. Nico would probably have liked that at his feet.
Great save Cleveland!
I think the other way you get playing time if you're Cleveland is to shine when you get these chances and then move to another team. The Tyler Miller way...
Are the whitecaps missing any players to the Gold Cup like we are?
Looks like they are:
So close! Nice ball from Alex
So good from Leo Chu there to hold up, turn, and burn!
That pass to chu was on... Nouhou couldn't find the weight. Same thing there from Albert. Seems like everyone just needs to take a deep breath and settle in.
Or Chu has been doing so amazing that they keep forgetting that he doesn't actually have lightning speed.
Have we subbed anyone yet?
Nope
Man. Wonder what our set piece plus/minus is this year. Cleveland had no chance there.
Our set pieces are always so bad. Even our corner kicks.
Someone even asked Schmetz about it in the last presser - Nico's propensity to hit the first man without fail. He was quite defensive. But we are so bad... I miss Mauro Rosales, and I'd like to see Albert or JP take even more.
They are always just so bland without any creativity. Rarely are they of any substance. I don't know how anyone can think we're fine in this aspect.
Oh Rusnak. Oh no
I'm watching with sound off... Is the argument on that hand ball that it was deflected? Seemed like his arm was away from the body.
They didn’t really talk about it, the announcers were shocked
Shocked that no foul was called.
Thanks both. Also saw Raul get cleared out in the box in that window too...
There were two separate hand balls back to back on the Whitecaps. The ref didn't call either one, when they were clearly handballs. He didn't even go to review them on the monitor.
We'll be hearing from PRO next week about how they should have been called, I'm sure.
Yikes on that corner too... Saved by the woodwork
Jingle bells!
I take back what I said about our corner's being Lame.
Hey, I think we should take full credit for the reverse jinx.
Really good passing for a few minutes there. Nice drive by Rusnak but surely he can find Ruidiaz somehow there?
Yeah - that was a missed opportunity but it's been a while since I've seen them take a patient, probing, approach to the buildup. More of that.
Fuuuuuuuck
I watched the replay twice. I can't even spot where he made contact for that YC.
Same... phantom foul
A little worried by no subs here... Seems like a tired legs incident leading to a goal waiting to happen. But I also can't think who I'd rather being on at the moment.
YEIMAR!!!!
That seemed like a fair yellow to me.
Damn Rusnak. Hell of a kick. He took out Yemar.
Oh my goodness! Put it in the net!
I missed the foul that led to that. Was that foul even warranted?
Missed it too
The goal? Yeah I think nico fouled the guy.
If my foot is coming down, and you put yourself between my foot and the ground. It's my fault?
I think refs are trained to call that reckless for the sake of player safety, even if it’s purely accidental. I get it.
What even is going on?
LET'S GOOOO!!
It's amazing we have 70% possession.
That was a beautiful run, beautiful cross, and beautiful shot. Just a shame it didn't hit the goal.
Other than instances like this, how does Cleveland get play time experience if Frei is always playing keeper?
I think ostensibly though other competitions like USOC or maybe Leagues Cup depending on how we approach it. But if we keep getting bounced from USOC in the first or second round, not a lot of chances.
That's too bad.
I feel like he should have passed that. Ruidiaz and Chu both seemed to be in great positions to take that.
Gauld would have made that shot.
Easily offside
Thankfully... But another warning shot fired
