How is this being downvoted? Upvoted via Jerboa

2

Posted and upvoted from Jerboa. Working fine and looks good. And is on FDroid so bonus.

3

Can't take your app being criticized for crashing so much that it's useless on my OnePlus 6t? The app literally wouldn't stay open long enough for me to give it any real judgement. That's my experience

Things have been updated since and it seems to finally work again for those of us it was broken for. Give it a shot! Or don't because for me scrolling is still laggy as hell lol.

I think Jerboa goes in the A tier. Liftoff would be easy S tier if only it had an easier way to view comment context (like Jerboa).

Too bad too, because I would agree if Jerboa didn't have so many bugs.

The latest version (0.0.38) fixed the bugs for me. The previous one (0.0.37) was nearly unusable.

F-droid still shows 37. Where did you get 38?

As a jerboa user myself, I'm pretty confident Jerboa is C or D tier at best. It has a very buggy UI, crashes very frequently and is a nightmare to post comments. I'll hold my beliefs until the devs fix those issues

I only tried the two inside fdroid, jerboa and that other one. On now and it seems fine but i don't have much to compare it to. Seeing as how this lemmy stuff is new to me and i only tried the two.

Edit: ACd Hernia, changed back to jerboa. Lol hernia

What issue are you having with comment context in Liftoff? Seems to work for me; I get it through Obtanium though so maybe it's an older version issue for you

vlemmy.net

This is what i want. I can view comment context with just a click or two but it would be more convenient to just be able to view it from the inbox screen

1

Ah yeah I see what you mean, I can usually guess what someone's replying to since I don't post a huge amount but now that you mention it it really should it directly in the inbox

1
redreply

Liftoff added that, although the UI is a bit clunky

2

The other big issue with Liftoff is that you can't search for communities outside of your own instance without first adding the instance said community is hosted on. Unless someone can correct me on that.

1

Liftoff! is super snappy, but I can’t get used to the UI, to me it seems like it lacks attention to detail on the visuals part of the app.

Edit: I just figured out why it looks so strange to me: the app is very Material Design-y, so it feels outta place on iOS.

1

You should write a big "MY" at the beginning of the title.

It's weird that Thunder, most polished Lemmy app, is not even on the list

I agree. Since joining the beta, I’ve exclusively used Thunder. I never encounter errors or load issues and comments are posted without issues.

Every other app seems to have problems. Started with Memmy and wefwef but I couldn’t handle all the loading errors.

It has some niceities missing like how many unreas replies you have. But it's much better UI wise than Jerboa and actually marks posts as read unlike Liftoff. (Will make an issue when I get around to it)

Which app do you use to mark post as read automatically?

1

Thunder and Jerboa both mark posts as read after you click on them. Same goes for the webinterface. You have to enter the post, opening the preview image doesn't count.

1

Ha ok, what I want is to mark post as read once I scrolled them (even with opening them). AFAIK, there is no any client which do this

2

Since no one is posting it, here are the names of each of these apps:

The second C tier is Lemmynade but thats just the old name for Liftoff so Im not sure why its its own thing here

My dumbass just searched for “simply lemmy” thinking that is the name of a 3rd party web app.

5

Yeah, gotta search for the full "simply Lemmy but as a webapp" in order to actually find the right thing

1

Wefwef would be s for me as well but toasts block the bottom part of the screen and can't be dismissed. Trying to read comment replies and getting blocked by a message that tells me I'm looking at comment replies...

5

I'm using Jerboa and eagerly awaiting Sync for Lemmy. Haven't had the motivation to try anything else yet.

9
lemm.ee

Where is Memmy? I’d put that A tier probably. Good but not as good as wefwef.

8

Jerboa is A or S tier for me. Sure it used to crash alot, but now it's silky smooth, doesn't crash anymore and everything just works.

7

Try Jerboa again if you had trouble. The last couple updates were huge leaps forward

5

Thunder is the best. I try the other 8 apps I have but keep going back to thunder. It's so much better.

Started with Jerboa, tried Connect but that didn't feel right for me. Now I'm back to Jerboa (sometimes using Liftoff but mostly Jerboa), waiting till Boost is released

I've tried Jerboa. It feel basic but seems to be the inky one that actually shows decent search results when searching for communities. But it have a simple UI which is nice to me.

Wefwef. I hated it, but I am an android user who use to use RiF, this is nothing like it and it put me off. I can only fit like 2 post on the screen when scrolling. Way too much wated space

Liftoff. Don't like the UI, feels like everything is a little too big. There is too much wasted space again.

Connect for Lemmy. This is my go to and daily driver now. Its so quite similar to RiF if you tweek some of the settings. Can fit way more posts onto my screen at once. Has more customisation/functionality then Jerboa.

7

No, not tried that one yet. Is it on android.

Just taken a look at Boost in the play store and that looks very much like RiF. Might try that one

3

Not sure what those apps are. S Tier both kinda look like Memmy? (It’s the only one I know).

4

I guess I should try wefwef. Connect has been working nearly perfectly for me for the last week or so and the dev keeps adding new features. I think I might be loyal already.

4

I'm loving wefwef but have two gripes

  • It seems to get laggy with prolonged use (Firefox on android)
  • The way pressing Posts/Inbox/Account/Search operate like tabs where you have to back back back to the main screen
4
lemmy.world

Hard agree. This is what I concluded from my research also.

3

Connect on my ancient Galaxy Tab S2 refuses to connect to aussie.zone. It complains about the cert

2

I am loving wefwef as my desktop web ui for Lemmy. Reminds me so much of Apollo (RIP).

2

As much as it reminds me of the good old days of old.reddit I don't want to perpetuate that UI. I stuck with old.reddit to the end because new reddit was so awful, not because old.reddit is good
