What's a Reddit?
A piece of shit now
Turddit
Deadit.
Shitit
I've heard it was a popular discussion place people would go to. Even called the front page of the internet because it was the first and best source for compiled news and information. Its CEO had some quotes that showed how important free flow of information was.
"I don't think we should silence people just because their viewpoints are something we disagree with. There is value in the conversation, and we as a society need to confront these issues. This is an incredibly complex topic, and I'm sure our thinking will continue to evolve."
"We are not the thought police. It's not the role of a private company to decide what people can and cannot say."
He was also forward thinking in designing an open forum, controlled by individuals.
"Our approach to governance is that communities can set appropriate standards around language for themselves. Many communities have rules around speech that are more restrictive than our own, and we fully support those rules."
Wait, that sounds more like the Fediverse.
A miserable pile of secrets
A Reddit is when you destroy a social media platform because you're angry with its users. It's a common billionaire or wannabe billionaire move.
A miserable little pile of shitposts. But enough talk... Have at you!
Must be one of those eReader things.
A lot of deleted comments
One of those dead websites like Digg, MySpace, Livejournal etc.
If you see this message, then you've reddit already.
A featherless biped
Not just porn! Since reddit only has one such tag you can apply to posts, many subreddits were using the NSFW tag for a wider variety of reasons such as spoilers, content which may contain unsettling material (aka "triggers"), and more!
The stoners on Reddit got screwed - many of the weed subs got the banhammer, and the rest got NSFW'd because spez wants Reddit as G-rated as Disney for the IPO.
wait really? which weed subs got banned?
Trees is still around, so idk lol.
To be fair, there's been a site wide spoiler tag for a few years now, but yeah before it was introduced people used NSFW for that if a community didn't allow actual NSFW stuff or whatever
It’s not all NSFW. The Synology community I followed went full NSFW in protest and I can still view their subreddit. I cannot view subreddits such as watchitfortheplot. So somehow Reddit is differentiating.
Well I know they forced some subreddits go back to SFW if it was obvious the NSFW was just to protest. Maybe that's the case for the subreddit you're looking at?
NSFW means no ads as well.
I also remember the announcement was sexually explicit content won’t be served through the api, so they must have a way to differentiate then.
How does reddit tell the difference? Is it just nsfw communities not in the api or all nsfw posts? There is no discrepancy at least in the UI between NSFW gore and NSFW tits.
Also between the two I’d say porn is decidedly more advertiser friendly
They don't, it's any post or community marked with the NSFW tag
the OP literally said it's for all NSFW contents.
This is the true final blow to third party apps.
I noticed they did something similar to the mobile website. Even with appropriate content blockers there’s absolutely no way you can see sexually explicit content on mobile without their app.
Request the desktop site. Just tried it in Firefox on Android and it no longer says to open in app.
Or use old.reddit.com too.
Or don't use it.
Interesting calculus here. Before the r/pocalyspe I'd have said old-reddit was on a 3 month clock to being summarily retired
They also likely lost way more users than they anticipated through the blackouts, and might just let old-reddit be to protect their numbers until the IPO. As long as its not on default Main page, I doubt the advertisers will care. They'll kill it when they can do so quickly and quietly
Reddit doesn’t respect that on iPhones through any browser.
So anti consumer it hurts.
Last I heard, iThings weren't allowed to have other browsers, everything just had to be a different UI on top of Safari.
Yes that’s true. That’s why I can confidently say any browser because they are all the same.
Desktop Browser seems to be able to bypass some forced restrictions Safari has. Doesn't seem to work for Reddit, though.
Wow that's awful. I didn't think I could hate apple anymore than I have been for the last 17 years (I still remember the time my friend tried copying my music collection to is ipod and itunes deleted the entire folder)
I'd recommend setting one's own browser to automatically redirect to old.reddit.com for the occasion they might need to find that rare technical solution/see sum tiddies.
I use this plugin to fetch the last known stored version of a given page in the Wayback Machine: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/reddit-to-wayback-machine/
Really handy to get a read-only version of useful threads that have been since removed in protest or put in a private subreddit. Plus it doesn't give them any traffic, as it uses an external proxy.
Thanks for sharing! I'll definitely be using that.
That's a false dichotomy. Tiddies ARE a technical solution for feeding babies and attracting mates.
....or so I hear?
I just did a quick test with the DuckDuckGo browser. Didn't seem to have any issues loading a bunch of NSFW posts. You have to be signed in though, but I think it's been like that for quite a while now.
old-reddit can still do it while logged out. It's only new-reddit that requires logging in.
They even do the same thing with SFW posts, they just say it’s “unreviewed content” or whatever.
I logged onto Apollo using side loading. NSFW still works??
Shit platform hits rock bottom and continues digging
Digg-ing
Honestly, it seems what Reddit has been doing lately is far worse than anything Digg ever did. 🤷♂️ Digg basically just made a bunch of bad design decisions primarily but not entirely to please investors, and the majority of changes were not welcomed by the community.
Reddit is straight up disrespecting their userbase and telling them to suck a fat one and deal with it, holding to their miserable decisions while openly suggesting their userbase is too weak to go anywhere else... And also doing so primarily to please misguided investors.
I feel like Splez is dramatically overestimating his position. Pretty wild to tell your most dedicated users to basically fuck off.
Yup. I was a user (different username) since 2008. I haven't been back since June 12. I used Reddit daily. Even on vacation. Even on vacation in Europe when I'd be connected to Wi-Fi.
See ya.
I was also there since 2008, and was a heavy user. I've checked in a few times in the past month (a lot of my more niche communities haven't moved over yet), but I don't comment or interact anymore. Once Relay dies it's off my phone (it's already lost the homescreen shortcut), and if old.reddit dies I'm done forever.
Spez is also clearly extremely jealous of the Appolo developer
Years ago I had a successful website based on the API of a growing site which has since become pretty large. The main founder/CEO was pretty prominent in the community at the time and clearly thought that he was an amazing person. His attitude reminds me of how Splez has acted to the Apollo dude... rather than think "hey, thanks for adding something to the community, we appreciate it and could work together" he seemed to think we were interlopers who stole something from them and were using it unfairly. I think for both of them there's a feeling that successful outside developers demonstrate the CEO's inadequacy at meeting the needs of users. Plus on a personal level, Splez is this nerd who looks like he's from an Advice Animal meme and the Apollo guy looks like he could be on a TV show.
Yeah, they're just Fark'ing themselves over with this decision.
They are clearing My Space out with this decision
This kills the platform.
Dozens of people still use Tumblr!
Tumblr has walked back the ban with their new ownership
It turns out that banning porn makes advertisers happier, but you sell a lot less ads overall because you have nobody to advertise to.
Only fans did a quick Google before signing off on banning porn.
Can you imagine?
There are dozens of us. Dozens!
You still can if you're a subreddit mod, so I just did this:
Ah so this is why my apps sorta kinda work but are buggy as shit.
You are the real mvp
Which app are you using? On boost it tries to load (even non NSFW) but it does not load the posts.
Edit: NVM, Took a while but SFW and NSFW posts indeed are still loading on boost, for various accounts of mine.
The way the block works is that NSFW content works as it used to, but subs tagged by admins as porn will not.
Also be sure to put a bunch of stupid shit in your sub to make the site more lame. Post about how it's lame and people should use Lemmy or Kbin instead.
People should start mirroring Reddit porn to the appropriate fedi hubs. Porn is how tech grows; hate it or love it.
I always struggled with looking at the porn because my erection would get in the way. Thank you for reading and have a great day
RIP In Pieces Reddit. This is what will finally kill that site.
So how's the pr0n scene on Lemmy? Asking for a friend.
Lemmynsfw.com has plenty
Also pornlemmy.com
Does it?? When I visit, I only see month old moderator posts.
Has something to do with NSFW posts not showing if you're not logged in
You're forced to create a user on lemmynsfw in order to see content, that's why they have so many users. pornlemmy.com is different, they don't put anything behind a firewall.
Yeah that instance confuses me. Every time I see it, it's just mod posts and mostly tame pictures of celebrities. Am I missing something? Is there a secret knock?
You need to login
You need to be logged in and have nsfw enabled on your account. I had the same issue for a bit.
The admin is a pedo (check the loli comment).
You're being downvoted because that admin admitted their mistakes and stepped away from the site (someone plz correct me if I'm wrong)
"I'm sorry I was fine with child porn but now I'm not" doesn't sound sketchy at all, and he didn't step away he is still there running things.
Totally - something just didn't sit right seeing you be downvoted for being against CP lol
Lemmynsfw.com
Pornlemmy.com
Using the connect app, how do I change my instance? It only seems to have 3 underneath it allows me to switch to, I can't manually enter anything in the instance settings?
Pornlemmy.com
New instance, seems promising
Thanks friend!
Do we really need porn Here? Im trying to figure that out for myself.
If you want to grow, choose porn. It's been the singular driving force in adoption since the ARPA started funding the internet.
I heard somewhere but have no source, that porn was the driving reason behind VHS becoming so popular.
Streaming video as well. I remember when YouTube was new and PornHub was just straight up the best video host on the internet. People were uploading their SFW videos there because the buffering was so much better.
Porn may have been one factor, but the bad recording times on beta are what really killed it. Here is a series of four videos detailing the differences between beta and VHS. And there was plenty of porn available on the beta.
Imagine spending a thousand dollar right now on technology that has two standards not compatible and who knows if it is going to even work just so you could consume one type of media in the privacy of your home. Which media would be worth this great expense and risk?
Reminds of HD-DVD vs Blu-ray. During that time I bought into neither thankfully. I recall thinking HDDVD was the way to go but didn’t wanna invest in either.
The market is already pretty saturated, though. There are so many other places to view this type of content and in a better format than a link aggregator.
Like, wouldn't Pornhub be a more streamlined way to look at porn? Or whatever other porn website?
I never understood the appeal of porn on reddit. I always just blocked the porn subs and went about my business.
Having said all that, I totally agree that it should be allowed or perhaps even encouraged. It's a free and open system - let the people do what they want. Even if I personally don't understand the appeal.
People are pretty fond of the grassroots movement for independent creators to strike their own on reddit. Onlyfans is a good website for creators to monetize their content, but I don't believe it does much for growing their following. Pornhub has gotten better for smaller creators but so many things are lost in their terrible tagging and indexing that they're lost in the flood.
Topical community environments like reddit on the other hand let's them show their specific content to a group that's primed to like it. Mods are keeping the focus narrowed, so you're less likely to compete against the same reposted clip from a decade ago that has little connection to the tags affixed. Pretty similar reasons for why it did so well on Tumblr as well.
You're probably right. I think it matters more to content creators than consumers? Like, posting porn to Reddit is often advertising? And like anything, people must get some form if satisfaction interactions on specialty subs. You can't just go to Pornhub and upload your favorite foot porn, right? Get upvotes, get that tiny dose of dopamine. Get to comment about how beautiful the girl is, hoping maybe she'll like your complement more than the other thirsty guys'.
Social media, man. Interaction, even meaningless... it's its own drug.
Wouldn't that also apply to any image content then (like comics, memes, infographics, etc)? It doesn't stop it from being popular. The important thing is simply finding a site that allows your specific content and that doesn't heavily compress it.
The internet is for porn. How you think net was born?
I know it's probably a "Then we wouldn't have this hilarious song" or whatever thing, but it always kind of bugs me that Kate never thinks to remind Trekkie that she works at a kindergarten. Like, sure, porn is a big part of the internet, but probably not appropriate for a lesson for kindergartners which was the original purpose of the song before he hijacks it?
Explain on their level.
The internet is for hugs. The internet is for hugs. Why you think net was born? For hugs hugs hugs!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6eFNRKEROw&t=30
Anyone can just create a porn instance, so why not as long as it's moderated (and hopefully not full of illegal content)?
Remember to leave a review on the official reddit app regarding it's porno abilities - if there's anything google/iOS app stores love more than anything it's an abundance of apps dedicated to viewing porn
That was like, half the reason I used reddit, lol. Otherwise it's just a shithole full of "aHkshUaly" people.
Take your clothes off, or give me something actually interesting and insightful to read, or fuck right off.
Lmao this puritanical turn from all these tech companies over the last 5-6 years I don't get it. All they are going to do is speed self-immolation. What is happening to the internet.
can't look at anything on most 3rd party apps to be fair....
We all know what happened to Tumblr right?
https://old.reddit.com/ still seems to work, and that one doesn't force you to use the app or login.
The grim reaper is coming for old.reddit.com any day now.
It's already been leaked they're killing off everything outside of the official app in phases. Only a matter of time.
Source?
Leaked or rumored? The only thing I've seen officially is them saying old.reddit isn't going anywhere.
A few weeks ago when I still used Reddit via old.Reddit I was constantly getting switched to the new Reddit. It was infuriating.
Yeah that's likely
Is this just speculation or is there evidence for it?
There was a Reddit post a while back where they confirmed the OP was part of an A/B test to disable logging in to old.reddit.com on mobile. Not a great sign.
https://www.reddit.com/r/help/comments/135tly1/helpdid_reddit_just_destroy_mobile_browser_access/
That makes sense though considering that they wanted to kill the 3rd party apps too. I'd imagine that for desktop users it shouldn't matter much wether you're using the redesign or old.reddit - they'll be able to collect the same data and show the same ads.
In January Reddit told third party app developers that there wouldn't be any API changes this year. Maybe in the future, but they definitely wouldn't charge for it this year.
Similarly, Spez said that old Reddit isn't going away.
To me, that's enough to consider it a realistic possibility.
Speculation, but it's an inevitability. It costs money to support old.reddit, which means Reddit will certainly kill it on the day that they'll think the backlash will be small enough.
My imagination is that old.reddit.com was cheaper to serve than whatever it is they are doing now. Maybe they make less ad revenue?
To keep old reddit alive they need to also spend developer time supporting some new features and not breaking legacy code. It's more than just server costs.
Spez is looking after /r/anal harder than anyone else is.
So reddit continues to fight its own user base...
Wait you can even view reddit on a 3rd party app at all? Which app playoffs the $10m to still work with reddit?
Yeah, theres a few that are gonna switch to a subscription model to pay off the ridiculous price reddit is asking. Fucking shills, man.
I can't hate. Those devs had a livelihood and real world bills to pay. I can't blame them for trying to make a bad thing work.
I will hate on the people who pay it though, since paying to use reddit after how Spez conducted himself and the disdain shown towards the user base seems absolutely ridiculous. That's some next level addiction of being mad enough to not use the official reddit app, but too addicted to not stop contributing content to the site.
I wouldn't necessarily say shills. I can't say I know the ins and outs of app development but I'm sure it could come about that a particular dev doesn't have the know how or capital to start a new project.
What I do know is that I've worked for companies who's morals I don't approve of to make ends meet.
Boost was still working till now on Android. They seem to have finally killed it.
I just tried and was still able to pull up the front page in Boost when logged in but it was super slow and no NSFW access.
Red Reader will continue to function.
You can use them if you aren't logged into your account. I still try BaconReader every once in awhile, just to see my old friend. Even the NSFW links worked just now.
NSFW stopped working on RiF
It is still based on usage so you don't need to cough up 10 mil for starters. You ONLY need something like 10$ a month per user. Can't recall the exact numbers anymore but the point remains.
The Apollo dev said $2.50 a month per user. Not that bad really if reddit had given developers enough time to change their apps and the sign-up process. He got screwed by already having an existing Premium that people had pre-paid too.
It's $2-3/month, but that's assuming all your existing users convert to paid subscriptions.
The issue devs had was that it was going to mostly be the heaviest users who would be willing to pay for a subscription. The people who spend many hours per day using the app and rack up $20/month in API charges.
Yeah, they would have to include some limits so a user wasn't costing the app developer money. Not all existing users would have to sign up, though - people would just have to be required to sign up and pay to use the app in the future. It's certainly quite a disadvantage for 3rd party app users have to pay while the official app is free.
Yeah thanks for the accurate number. It wasn't as ridiculous as I recalled. Should've checked it first.
Still unreasonably high (checked the Apollo post, he calculated it would be multiple times more than what average reddit user currently brings to table).
The purpose of my comment was to point out that the mentioned 10 million dollars would mean 4 million active users if it's monthly fee.
Theoretically anyone could make their own app with the api and pay the api cost directly.
Porn is the reason, the internet is so popular. It's basically a driving force!
yes you can. you just have to be a moderator of ANY subreddit. so if you create your own subreddit or moderate already one, nsfw is still enabled.
This works even if you create a private subreddit, and it just takes like 30 seconds. I'm now proudly moderating r/fuckuspez1.
I must be a mod of a sub without me realising then. I’m using Apollo via side loading and NSFW still works.
Unless it’s banned just on the ones like narwhal and dystopia?
Is there a way to check which subs you moderate?
Upvote this one, the like makes the whole thing moot
Oh no! Anyways...
It is ultimately a way to further cripple 3rd part apps. Thus, making the official Reddit app look better by comparison. It’s not certain if Reddit will get rid of porn, because while porn sub-reddits don’t generate ad revenue, a not insignificant portion of Reddit’s user-base visit porn sub-reddits, making Reddit a good one-stop-shop for a user’s media related need. So while porn doesn’t generate ad revenue, it brings users, users who also visit other non-porn sub-reddits that do.
PSA: Hardened browsers (desktop or mobile) are still an option. I know it isn't but it would be difficult to convince me that the official app is better than even that.
TLDR: Hhhhhe he said "hardended." uh heh heh...
Modding a NSFW subreddit also unblocks all of it. Anyone can just make a private sub and mark it 18+ and still have all their porn, tested it on Relay and it worked fine. For science, of course.
It doesn't even have to be NSFW. Modding any subreddit work.
Edit: Welp, nevermind. It seems Boost is down now.
Which is kind of funny because one of the reasons Reddit got so big was because of the pornography
It killed tumblr, now it's after reddit.
Never come between a horny internet user and pr0n 🍆
Shit I can’t even use a third party app they all went dark, hence why I’m here
A couple of them (such as Infinity) were granted an extension and still work.
Boost only just stopped working for me about an hour ago... That's it for Reddit for me now
Infinity has also stopped working.
Infinity still works for me, although I didn't let it update so that may be why.
Was this one of the ones that said they'd move to a subscription service?
I think so, I don't get prompted to subscribe when I try to open it though, it just immediately closes itself.
The new restrictions have killed off those who were trying to adapt so quickly that the admins can't even hold them up lmao
Nope, it still works on my phone. Do you have the newest F-Droid version?
How’s the porn on lemmy/lemmy.world?
One of the larger instances is lemmynsfw.com, there’s a fair amount of porn there.
Not quite the levels there are on Reddit, though. And very little OC from what I’ve seen.
https://pornlemmy.com/ seems to have better content
Lmao at the styling
Lol, you weren't kidding. I had to do a double take to make sure I was on the right site.
Ooh, thanks! That does look nice
Yeah it kind of just...not very good at the moment. Kinda like early 2000's internet porn. Still images of celebrities and such.
Even the mightiest of rivers begins with but a trickle.
Well it was very different a couple days ago. Things got shook up apparently, I don’t know the full story but a bunch of communities got wiped for some reason.
Is lemmy.world entirely sfw?
No, it has NSFW communities and also federates with other NSFW instances like lemmynsfw.com and pornlemmy.com
The admin is a pedo (check the loli comment).
Nowhere near to the same level of niche.
Fediverse is strangely prudish. Not much porn, and when it shows up, instances defederate from it.
Awesome, even less reason to go back now.
Let the porn flow on lemmy!
Porn works on Stealth available on f-droid if you switch the source to web scrapping. Not that I advocate using Reddit
right nowever again.Don't care about this.
There was this great community on r/medicalgore where people shared pics of symptoms of their health problems or photos made during their operations. This allowed everyone to fear less about own health problems. The whole sub was always NSFW.
There are still 3rd party apps?
It is possible on Stealth which is an accountless option with options to use a teddit instance. Little reason to even have an account anymore on reddit, and for those who say subs. Stealth lets you have a feed too. And those that say saving comments or posts Stealth lets you do that too. All locally and exportable.
If you continue using reddit on the phone why let reddit keep harvesting account specific data while just lurking? Go use stealth instead over doing stuff like patching past third party apps and logging in and letting them track your activity then being drawn to add value to the platform through engagement by being tempted to upvotes, downvote, and post.
But wait, why isn't that affected by the api changes
Doesn't use reddit api. Uses either a scraper or teddit instance. There is no option to login. It's a pure lurk mode reddit app.
How does teddit get the content?
From the sounds of it currently uses reddit api
https://github.com/libreddit/libreddit/issues/818
Once that gets killed off will have to rely on scraping. Which I just tested on Stealth , and yes nsfw content is available. And yes, even scrapes you a custom subscription feed with no account.
Seems awesome! Only a shame it doesn't allow blocking communities, or much customability as far as the ui is concerned. Might have to do revanced boost honestly, reddit is such a big part of my hobby.
Yeah, it's very barebones, but I have no intention of scrolling through /r/all any more or interacting with the community so it meets my needs. Days of commenting with the reddit community and giving account based click impressions are done.
Pretty much there set to automatically launch any reddit search result from stealth running the reddit instance so I avoid going directly to reddit. Sort like a smoking patch to tapering off reddit. Using past third party app with the account functionality feels too much like using it as normal, and even closer to falling into commenting again.
💀
It's a Foss reddit app available from f-droid. https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.cosmos.unreddit/
For science I just pulled up a few long-established pornography-specific subreddits (photo, video, and prose-based) in the current version of RedReader, the app which has been spared the axe by Reddit for now. I can confirm that the NSFW subreddits and individual posts still seems to be working and viewable in that app.
EDIT: Disregard, per reply comments this won't work after an update. :-P
u/redditmaturecontent forcing me to browse pornhub
it's such a stupid thing. like reddit is not earning anything anyway if I am going there only for porn. like advertisers are not going to put ads in NSFW subs anyway. what's the point of this change
That's like banning incest from pornhub.
using Sync modified with Vanced and I can still tittys.
I used Reddit partly because I didn't want to pay for porn.
And you just use desktop mode
Not just nsfw content, it's bullshit when any site tries to force you to use an app because of a bit of text in your browser profile
Facebook did it for years and any site that does it I avoid
There goes my Reddit addiction
Obvious? Why are we talking about this still? Access was
terminatedpay walled almost a week ago.Sexually explicit content was still available through the paywalled API until yesterday.
I am surprised any 3rd party clients remained connected for that to matter.
It takes a while to get major changes like this to make it's way to the live branch. If this didn't hit at the same time as API costs, then that likely means there was a bug preventing the restriction on nsfw content
Interestingly r/PICS still works despite being tagged NSFW (or so I thought?)
Yes, some nsfw posts go through. I assume reddit is using some kind of nudity detector. Or is there a 18+ flag you can apply independently of nsfw?
I think reddit has an internal distinction between NSFW and "sexually explicit", and it's at least partially set by the whims of reddit admins instead of sub mods.
Yup, that's the end of the road for me
I got my RiF golden platinum working again by using revanced manager and a guide to patch in my own api key. I can still view NSFW content on it too. Not sure if it will stop eventually. But works right now. I only wanted to keep it for the NSFW stuff as lemmy is only just starting in that department. Been refusing to use it for general browsing though. Trying to stick with lemmy.
Hmm seems I can still access from ravanced Sync
Same with my patched RiF
Even unpatched RIF let's you see it still if not signed in
Unpatched rif stopped showing porn for me today or yesterday. It just shows a post that says Go to reddit to view mature content. Non nudity NSFW images seem to show just fine.
Well fuck I jinxed it for me lol. The app doesn't show anything as NSFW now. Well that blows for those that were still holding onto the app by not signing in.
reddit bypasses this block automatic if you are moderator. even if it's just your own sub you just created. being a mod disables this block on all subs
I can access NSFW content with Revanced Sync as well, and I'm not a mod.
Yeah... It seems like they only blocked the API keys belonging to the well known app developers from accessing NSFW as it stands at the moment.
also, supposedly, if you're a moderator you can access nsfw content
Still works on stealth for android
isnt this exactly what they did to alienblue years ago?
Isn't that how Tumblr also died?
🎶 crackin' down on fun, over at Reddit🎶
I still can on latest Infinity
Who cares, it was all bots and only fans
Is r/ trying to do the scientology/Catholic thing where they want to see what you jerk off to in order to use it as blackmail material?
I'm having Tumblr flashbacks.
I still have Infinity installed and I can still porn. Is it possible existing API keys have the permission to fetch NSFW posts. Though it won't be long lived though.
Reddit moderators can see all nsfw content. So your account is likely a moderator or creator of a subreddit.
This is an interesting loophole. I didn't think I was either of those.
If you're a mod on any sub you can still see nsfw content on any other sub?
Kind of ironic that the content they can't monetize through ads is the content they're blocking from third parties
Make yourself a mod and patch with revanced and you can still see nsfw content. For now.
Joey for Android still works.
They all moved here already! Lol
Where?
pornlemmy.com
If you own a NSFW sub or are a moderator of one, you still have the possibility to see NSFW content over third-party apps / API
My app is still pulling NSFW content from the API as of right now. Let’s see how it goes.
A perfect time to share Perry's Perspectives
It still works using my own API key
are there apps that are letting users create their own API keys and plug them in?
Revanced Manager allows you to patch a few third party apps with your own API key if you're on android
Yup. I used it to patch sync with its own api key and remove all ads. It's been working flawlessly, including nsfw content after creating my own sub to mod.
I'm not fully switching to lemmy until sync comes over, then Reddit can finally fuck off entirely.
Official sauce: https://github.com/revanced/revanced-manager
There are community tweaks, especially for Apollo, that let you insert your API key.
still works in Narwhal...
reddit made it so if you're moderator, you can still watch nsfw on EVERY sub. so if you made your own sub or moderate one.. its bypassed basically.
oh. I guess that explains it. I am a mod.
So... everyone can just create a subreddit to "unlock" NSFW? that's weird & interesting.
yupp. a shitton of people already do exactly that. they create subs with their own usernames.
I just tested with Relay. I can view NSFW subs. I should note my account seems to be flagged as NSFW for posting to interestingasfuck after it went NSFW.
Eh, honestly I don't care about the porn, but with a lot of subreddits flying the NSFW flag just to piss off advertisers, that makes life a lot more shitty. shrugs Oh well, just one more reason to make myself scarce there.
Hopefully this brings some more communities to Lemmy. Some of my niche weed related subreddits like divinetribe had to be nsfw and I’d love them to move over here.
I still can. Using Boost unpatched. Am I lucky?
Boost just went down for me. Goodnight sweet prince
Just logged in to check. Headed to fridge to pour one out for my dead homie.
RIP Boost. Until we meet again in Lemmy.
Mine still works, unpatched, NSFW and all, like nothing happened. I'm a "mod" of my own private subreddit, though.
I think so, I finally had to uninstall Boost today after it wouldn't load posts anymore. I was surprised it was working this long past July 1st even though they said it wasn't.
My boost loaded a lemme plug and stopped working, but now is working again. Idk when it will die, just trying to get ahead of it.
@L4s In mobile browser still works, but they already said that the mobile website will be killed.
And people are still unsure if they will kill old.reddit
@CMLVI @L4s Reddit gonna kill whatever makes them don't collect enough user data as they want.
My guess old.reddit will be next after killing the mobile website.
Source? Not that I don't believe it, but I've seen it thrown around quite a few times and I can't find where did they say that.
@Syrc According to one of the admins they were experimenting with removing the login in mobile websites.
That means that they're preparing for a possible future where they remove said feature.

Well, that’s not really a clear statement but close enough. They’re really trying to piss off as many users as possible huh.
Still works for me on base infinity
No working for me on Narwhal. Sad face.
But you can on here ;)
For a moment I thought it said Digg…. Or tumbler. Probably Digg.
Only reason I still use reddit was for the large comps of stuff I liked. Guess infinity is gone for me forever now.
Well, actually, you can view it through Infinity.
A friend told me that other apps like Telegram still have a ton of porn on them allegedly.
Based
Mobile browser still works fine for me. Is that not the case for everyone?
3rd party apps were still working ?
Still works for me on Sync via the ReVanced bypass.
I set my subreddit to NSFW and I still get NSFW in Relay
Relay still seems to be working.
really amazing it's still working with libreddit (or so I've heard)
not true, still works on non-patched Boost
You can't look at Reddit at all on third party apps now. Or did I miss a change to their API change?
Why does anyone give a shit about Reddit?
Schadenfreude.
It's still quite a large platform, and porn is one of its strong suits.
Was.
Is this really a problem? It's not like the internet is begging for more porn.
Fine by me. I turn that off anyway. Don’t want to see it there.
Why would you look for porn on Reddit of all places? There's lots of porn and the internet is a big place. Reddit is a sorry place to post and view it in the first place.
how down bad do you have to be to jerk off mobiley? humanity is doomed
Don't you mean away from home since they're on mobile?
Yeah well, I still jerk off manually
This poor English would be adorable if your message weren't so negative.
