All my Apple devices switched themselves off overnight

Does anyone know why this might happen? I woke up this morning, my phone and my wife's (who both share an account) had switched themselves off. Also my Ipad and IMac had. Has anyone had this happen and what does it mean?

Really terrible idea to share iCloud accounts. That’s what family sharing is for.

Wish I could upvote this more than once. Apple IDs are not meant to be shared. It will cause a whole mess of issues. I used to work Apple support and can't tell you how many times I had to help people untangle this.

They were off. I was able to turn them back on again but they were all off in the morning. I missed an alarm but everything else was fine when i turned them on.

Battery health is fine - 90% on my phone and 86% on my wife's. Its the fact that our phones, Ipad and IMac were all off which is a bit weird.

Phone ages are 1 and 2 years. Imac is a year old and the ipad is 2.

  1. Not that. It peaked at 16 C in my house last night
  2. I hope not. Also, tend not to turn them off.
  3. Could be, but to what end? Also, my 12 year old could have but its not really her MO for pranking.
  4. Have CO detectors to avoid that!

You can contact Apple support to see if they can help. Would be interesting to see if they all shut down at the same time, and if they did whether there was a logged reason. I would probably start a chat session from the support website for your iMac and tell them all the devices that were affected. I assume an iDevice will have a log of shutting itself down (if that’s what happened), I’m certain an iMac does.

Question: were your impacted devices actively charging while sleeping AND were there any weather events last night?

I am thinking maybe fluctuations in the power line might have caused the devices to shutoff and protect themselves. Usually, this is not an issue if you use a power surge protector between the wall and devices; or surge protection at the circuit breaker panel.

Also, would like to repeat what others have said about sharing iCloud accounts. It would be best to setup individual accounts for everybody and setup a “Family” if you want to share purchases (IAPs, Apple TV, …)

They were charging. We have surge protection on the circuit breaker panel. Could it have been too low a surge to flip the breaker but too high for the IOS devices? It didn't happen again last night, so thats a positive.

Thanks for the advice on Family accounts (you and everyone else who have mentioned it). I already have my daughter on a separate account, but will spilt my wife off for security reasons.

Yep, and my phone looks up porn on its own when no one is touching it.
