Back in '85, my dad was working on a documentary about a tribe in the Amazon called the Jivaros. While living among them, he made friends with an old woman named Niama who had, arguably, the most lustrous, silky hair he had ever seen. Now, he was in his twenties then and with the subtropical humidity wreaking utter havoc on his already unpleasant hair.
The story goes that one day she smiled cryptically and beckoned my dad to follow her into the jungle. After what seemed like forever, he reached a sparkling waterfall,n revealing a tiny grove nurturing a plant that had the most brilliant flowers. Niama called it the "Endapilka", translating literally to "hair's caress" in the Jivaro language.
Under her guidance, my dad learned how to grind the leaves and flowers into a concoction she applied onto her hair every few days. The results, as you can guess, held everyone in total awe.
Upon returning home, my dad spent years trying to replicate the Endapilka shampoo but couldn’t quite get it right. On one fated trip to a local organic store, a little green bottle in the far corner caught his eye. It was labeled ‘Forest Essences - Amazon Rainforest Shampoo’. Out of sheer curiosity, he bought it.
It's been working like a charm for the last 15 years, although the price is rather steep (It was $100 for a 30oz bottle)
