I seriously can't comprehend how people willingly stand in those insanely long lines to buy the newest apple product

Can someone enlighten me on why it's so essential to have a gadget ASAP? I mean does it perform better if you get it on day one or something?

I get that there are hardcore tech enthusiasts and even those whose job is to wait in line for others, but what about the rest? Are upgrades genuinely THAT important for them? I've seen folks waiting for hours in rain, cold, or scorching sun, only to find out the item is sold out! And let's be real, they probably knew this could happen.

Why not just wait a couple of weeks post-release or pre-order online? It's not even comparable to waiting in lines at Disneyland or nightclubs.

Idk, maybe it's just me... Anyone else got thoughts on this?

It's the same reason why some people buy apple products in the first place, it's a status symbol, like a unique piece of jewelry that only a few people has.

Not really. I mean this debate has probably been done many times before. The status symbol part is correct, but if you compare long term usage its actually cheaper to buy an iPhone. While a 500 dollar Android might last you 2-3 years. iphones easily last 5 years plus (in terms of software support at least). Making it cheaper in the long run over buying another Android. Not even mentioning the simplicity and simply works benefits of apple products. Still not onboard with standing in line though.

Except like 80% of apple users are buying the new iPhone the second it comes out. kinda defeats that purpose. lol

Also, I've owned the same android phone for almost 6 years before. It only stopped working when I left it face down in a pool of oil overnight on accident.

I only replace my phone when I do because the new phone is cool and I've paid off my current phone so I have some extra money per month to waste on a new one. I haven't replaced a phone because it stopped working in a long time.

I think probably the thing that sticks out for me is that Apple hasn't come out with something brand new since the first iPhone. Everything on iPhones that they like to pretend is new stuff is stuff that's been on Android phones for almost a decade. The only thing Apple did that was not something Android phones had already done was remove the headphone jack. Which I still think was a stupid move.

Ye, i wasn't dismissing the other reasons of buying an iphone, just that the fanatics staying in line might care more about the status symbol, also android doesn't really have the problem of software support anymore, even chinese phone brands are now updating for 3-5 years and you can always also install the updates yourself by flashing a custom rom, meaning the only deciding factor of getting a new phone would be hardware related problems.

I know fragmentation is still a big issue on android considering there are thousands upon thousands of Android devices each with their own aspect ratios, hardware, system specs etc. I do agree though, human nature tends to lean into fads, status symbol, and quite simply whatever the “newest” thing is
