In the books, the way Catelyn treated Jon indirectly caused the Red Wedding. Robb slept with a girl and felt obliged to marry her because he didn't want to bring a bastard into the world, having seen how they treated bastards

Honestly, it would be more interesting if he did this for a not so good looking good. Decisions like this are a lot harder when you've got even less to gain. I get the Stark's are all about Honor or whatever but still.
