If you wanna know how I orient my blanket at night, I have folded one of the corners (the top left) of the blanket (like how we dog-ear pages of a book) and stitched it up. At night when I want to orient the blanket, I feel for the fold on the blanket and then cover myself properly.
I like that technique of dog-earing a corner of the sheets. It's much better since you don't damage the sheets in any way.
I would cut off 1 corner of my sheets for the same reason, to help find the corners to hold when it's dark. Of course, using scissors damages the sheets in sad ways.
