Just wanted to share some on the road insights from a short vacation break I took in Sri Lanka a few weeks ago

I was left pretty amazed by the quality of roads througout Sri Lanka - even the less commonly traversed interior regions were on par with those in developed nations. Everywhere I went, the attention to keeping lane marking stripes in order was absolutely noteworthy. Shoulders were clearly marked, street signs were highly legible, and I can barely recall the sight of a pothole at all.

I would say all of drivers folowed the designated conventions for the solid or broken center line while overtaking, and was true even in the city.

Traffic signals were functional and were followed perfectly by drivers nearly 100% of the time. No ambiguity over which signal led where, whether to turn left or right.

Specifying seperate signal timings for different directions was something interesting that I havent seen anywhere else. If there were three signals for left, right, and straight, each had separate countdown indicators, leaving no room for confusion at all

In my entire journey I did not come across a single instance where a 2-wheeler rider (driver and passenger) was without a helmet. It's worth mentioning that I noticed this even on the most isolated inner roads. The adherence to lane discipline and respect for speed limits were genuinely impressive. As someone who has driven in India its basically a night and day difference. Hope they recover soon.

Definitely this is noteworthy.Being a developing nation ,if this road discipline is achieved with sincere commitment goes a long way to achieve other objectives.
