TIL that Rüppell's griffon vulture has the highest documented altitude of any bird at 36k feet. Unfortunately this information was discovered after a Boeing 747 took the bird into the engine over western Africa.

While that's a sad way to find out about a world record for a vulture, I'm curious to know how they identified the bird. Did they have footage of the bird before its last moment? Or did they involve forensics 🤔

Most likely DNA test, i imagine there wasn't much left of the bird.

The cleaning staff could've just dismissed it as another dirty engine though... Feels like a miracle that they took it seriously enough to inspect the blood samples...
