New Clan Suggestions
I totally get limiting the number of Clans until user counts go up. As they do, here’s a list of some communities you could consider adding:
- Paranormal
- Animal clans (Cats, Dogs, Pets, Cute)
- Movies
- TV
- Music
- Art
- Books
- Funny
- Advice (like AskReddit)
It would also be worth it to consider something that could be unique and original to Spyke. Reddit introduced things like AMA, AITA, TIFU and cake days. Having something unique to Spyke might help differentiate it.

A programming clan would also be good. Maybe not for each language at first, but something to get started with would be good.
#codecentral exists right?
I mentioned something similar in another post, and I agree that we need more clan/sub/channel options, but I don't think it's wise to fragment the user base too much this early. Adding broad topics which can then be tailored into smaller groups later seems like a better idea.
Reddit started out on a similar path. At first it was just "reddit", then the admins created 20-30 subs like technology, science, and pics, and once they got a critical mass of users they added the option to create your own sub.
That said, I like your idea.
Nice, but maybe start broader with something like #WeirdShit
Start with just #Pets or #Animals and go from there
Yes

#AskSpyke
#SpykeDeezNuts
Fair — “Paranormal” was kind of my broader suggestion for that category though, as on Reddit there are subs like: UFOs, Aliens, HumanoidEncounters, CreepyAskReddit, HighStrangeness, Ghosts, Glitch in the Matrix, Missing 411, The Truth is Here, Skinwalkers, Occult etc etc etc
I'm looking at alternatives to migrate the r/exchristian community. I'm still laying the groundwork so I don't have a good idea of how many of the 122k users might migrate with us. But if that's an option here, please let me know.
That’s fair! Spyke could have a really great source of new users if it started offering spaces for communities looking to leave Reddit after all of their recent shenanigans.
I specifically recommended less controversial communities as it seems like Spyke might be risk adverse to communities likely to need more heavy moderation at this stage.
What I’ll miss most from Reddit are the ultra-specific subreddits for local communities (countries, cities, etc), specific video games and video game platforms, particular disabilities like autism/ADHD, and particular social groups like LGBT or political/anti-capitalist ones.
But I also realize we have to start somewhere and I don’t want to overburden the system with Clans prone to needing more moderation like that too until there is some kind of system for 3rd party moderators (if Spyke goes in that direction).
Certainly. Right now we have a huge backlog of features. User run communities will be coming soon. Having reddit moderators as well here would be a huge plus. That being said. If there's a demand, there's a way.
Please stay tuned on the subreddit /r/spykesocial or the #spyke clan.
