VC's like hash emergent have been pouring a lot of money on startups in India focusing on Blockchain. There's probably something that they see in the technology

Blockchain is simply a database being decentralised at the cost of efficiency. Aside from currency like bitcoins, from my experience there is no other blockchain applications that can not be solved by using regular database

Decentralised Blockchain is best for applications where you cannot trust the institution/organisation with a centralised DB, since they could straight up manipulate the data.

A centralised DB would be password protected to keep hackers away, unlike the blockchain where all data is publicly accessible but at the same time immutable.

Contracts, digital tenders, evidence handling systems, and so many more things can benefit from a decentralised blockchain.
