Pretty sure RIF is officially down now.
Apollo is down too. Like this is it.

Yeah, wasn’t part of Reddit’s reasoning for not backing down that the API backlash only affects a small subset of users and that most of their use base won’t notice what’s going on (besides being inconvenienced by the blackout)? This kind of shines a spotlight on the fact that everyone is seeing what’s going on.

I think I’m favouring Memmy of the TestFlight apps. Although I like Thunder’s markdown preview. Otherwise wefwef feels like home

I had no idea how long I was using reddit for until this whole thing blew up. 10 years and the last several years have been exclusively through Apollo. Moving on now.

Google is about to make life more difficult for custom ROM fans
TL;DR from the article itself
Google has quietly deprecated support for the Dialer and Messaging apps in AOSP. This means brands need to use their own apps or Google’s latest phone and messaging apps. This news could also be a blow to the custom ROM community.

/r/videos announces that it will be entering it's blackout early - and indefinitely - given recent events
I wonder if many other subs will stay dark past the initial going dark protest. I just happen to exclusively use Apollo and have for years, so I support the mods in what they are doing.

Soon, hopefully
I’ve started using lemmy as my go to now. I still have Apollo installed, but once that stops working I won’t be going back to reddit.

There’s a web app called wefwef that is based on Apollo. It works just like the app when you add it to the Home Screen.

Life After Death? Scientists Discover a Planet That Shouldn't Exist
ChatGPT summary:
This article discusses the discovery of a planet called Halla orbiting a red giant star named Baekdu. The star is currently in the phase of helium fusion in its core, which is puzzling because it should have expanded and engulfed the planet. The researchers propose two possible scenarios to explain Halla's survival. One possibility is that Baekdu was originally part of a binary star system, and the merger of the stars prevented the expansion that would have engulfed the planet. The other possibility is that Halla is a relatively new planet that formed from the gas and dust produced by a collision between the stars. This discovery highlights that exoplanets can appear in unexpected places, challenging our assumptions about their formation.

Good to know. I guess it’s just a coincidence it started happening same time as RIF then. Either way, this might be it for reddit for a lot of users.
