Lmao, agree. My friend was trying to talk me into smart wifi locks when I bought my home. I was like "dude, if I ever have a single issue with a LOCK on a DOOR because my wifi is out or a battery dies I might fully lose my mind. I'm good." I don't even get the desire for some of this stuff. What genuine problem is being solved? What new problems are you introducing? Idk if people are really thinking this through.

Lol, I was born left handed and was forced to write right handed in preschool (Baptist.. not religious it was just cheap). This was in the mid '90s. Now I'm all mixed up and do some stuff left handed and other stuff right handed.

Yeah I've heard of the checking contents thing. Maybe it comes down to your habits and constraints - I just don't really ever have that problem and the solution seems worse to me than just kinda.. making a grocery list and walking to the store a couple times a week as I do now.

Yeah these are definitely valid - I live alone in a condo, so the benefits just don't appeal to me as much. My friend has a rental so he is already more inclined to find more utility in those features as well.

Lol I recently had a comment removed from the bogleheads subreddit because some guy was talking about buying a bit more of their usual index fund purchases if the market were to dump 20% in a day. Someone asked how they'd do it and I said "probably just shift a bit from emergency fund and build it back over the next month or two."

Cue the True Bogleheads ripping me for suggesting "timing the market." I said "this is, of course, fine." And they went nuclear. That comment got removed and I replied to the mod with "You got your head pretty far up your bogle there, bud." That got me a 3 day full reddit ban. Worth it.

For the uninitiated, bogleheads are basically just adherents to a popular passive investing philosophy. I agree completely with it, but it was hilarious to me how dogmatic - borderline religious - they were about "timing the market" with zero nuance or recognition that it's just not that serious.

Lmao I did this exact thing. Installed Ubuntu on the home desktop. Immediately occurred to me that I couldn't connnect to the internet to look up how to do anything else. Scrambled so hard to find that XP disc and atone for my reckless folly.

Doesn't seem to be strictly true, but I do think it's complicated. Running is awful for your knees if they're injured or you have some sort of congenital skeletal issue. If you're just sedentary, it's awful for your knees if you do too much too soon.

Otherwise it seems to strengthen them. I will grant that it's pretty hard to truly run easy enough and build up slowly enough. Takes patience and some trial and error in my experience. I skateboarded through my teens and 20s and had all sorts of nagging pains that have gone away completely after a couple years of consistent running, as an anecdote.

Sort of nitpicky but obesity does affect you in aggregate because of increased burden on the healthcare system that is more or less subsidized by healthier folks. It's never really better to have more people subjecting themselves to avoidable health problems than otherwise.
