Apple reveals “Reality Pro” AR/VR headset, available for $3,499 “early next year”
I pass on apple stuff but I've kind of wanted to make a DIY AR setup like with this project: https://www.instructables.com/CheApR-Open-Source-Augmented-Reality-Smart-Glasses/

Basic Bike Maintenance
sheldon brown's site has some articles for beginners and for repairs, I feel like a basic maintenance article should be there somewhere or on a search engine: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/beginners.html
the scope of "basic" to me feels like it expands at times, but if you read around you can probably find different ideas

Do People Actually Want to Wear a Headset All the Time?
I just want smartphone VR, not planning to buy a dedicated headset, just want to make use of what already exists and have wanted to try doing a VR desktop for a while using a phone
apparently there are problems with smartphone VR... but I presume them to be surmountable and that they're just trying to sell unnecessary VR hardware instead as a kind of gimmicky business move

Why Is Burgitt.moe The Only Blocked Instance?

an unsavory topic: is it illegal in U.S.? My understanding is it is in a grey area, since not real kids but can look enough like them. It's an important topic to mention because I think they were trying to pass an anti-encryption bill recently about CSAM possibly being transmitted over encrypted communications.

Well thank you for the suggestion, that gave me the idea to try a different browser, which worked
I also then tried my main browser and it worked, I may have mistyped the password initially and it got saved incorrectly, but either way I am in
wanted to post this post in case others had the issue, it wasn't giving a "incorrect login" notification or anything

YSK that 1M users on lemmy from the-federation.info is bullshit

Should we tone it down to get back on lemmy or continue to not give a fuck
to be clear, we also have a "lemmy" forum here, lemmy just refers to the software
There are a bunch of instances blocked from lemmy.ml which probably federates with exploding-heads, check out their list: https://lemmy.ml/instances
compare to the ones we federate with: https://exploding-heads.com/instances
edit: here is the lemmy project site's list of instances; I've heard we could re-join it if the software is updated to the newest version on this instance - https://join-lemmy.org/instances

Any Randonneurs here?
I like the idea better than races but don't really like timed riding or events but instead like the unracer meme of going out to "just ride"

btw right now there are a lot of people who want to leave reddit if you want to troll reddit and gain some users; there is a debacle with reddit trying to be greedy and ban third party APIs from the site which is making some jump ship to lemmy (unfortunately a lot of them seem to be going just to lemmy.ml, which is crashing their instance because they can't handle the new traffic)
edit: or if you can post around on beehaw (idk if we're banned there) or other instances where people are going to
