I finished Educated by Tara Westover. I really liked this book. It gave me a glimpse into an upbringing that is about as different from mine as I can imagine. If you want to get an idea of what it's like to grow up in a distrusts-anything-government, survivalist family, I highly recommend.

Now I've started Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. I'm still early on but I love how this book started. It instantly gripped me and I can't wait to see how it goes.

I just finished Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. It was really enjoyable and had me hooked! I've never seen the movie and am pretty excited to watch it now.

Now I'm reading King of Assassins by RJ Barker (book 3 of The Wounded Kingdom trilogy). This whole trilogy has been a bit rough around the edges but has some very unique world building. Over all I've been enjoying it.

I finished Provenance by Ann Leckie. I read her Imperial Radch trilogy years ago and really enjoyed it. This was set in the same world so I expected to like it but it just fell kind of flat to me. The exploration of personhood and gender norms wasn't really there and the political intrigue felt shallow.

Now I'm on A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennett, the sequel to The Tainted Cup. It is just as gripping as the first book and I'm absolutely loving it. I really need to read more from this author.

I finished Prince of Fools by Mark Lawrence (The Red Queen's War). Not sure what it is but this one didn't click with me as well as other Mark Lawrence books I've read. I will continue the series though.

I just started A Fever in the Heartland by Timothy Egan. It's about the KKK in the 1920s. So far it's both interesting and infuriating. I think I will learn a lot from this book.

Having recently finished Stormlight, I am very curious to read the Sunlit Man now!

I just finished Assassin of Reality by Maryna and Serhiy Dyachenko (book 2 of Vita Nostra). It honestly kind of felt like an afterthought to capitalize on the popularity of the first book. I didn't feel like it added much and preferred the open endedness of the first book.

Now I've started Wool by Hugh Howey, the first of the books the Silo show is based on. Too early to give my thoughts but the first few chapters were very closely followed in the show.

Mistborn is such an easy and pleasant read! It was an excellent gateway into Sanderson's books for me.

I finished Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir and absolutely loved it. There were a couple nitpicky science things I had issues with, but overall I thought it was an amazing read.

Now I've started The Paris Bookseller by Kerri Maher. It's a historical fiction about a gay American woman who opens a bookstore in 1920s Paris. Finally getting that Bookception bingo square filled with this one.

Edit: As I read further, I realized this book, while fiction, is very much about a real person and real events that happened in the 1920s. This book is about Sylvia Beach.

I finished two books this past week:

The Magician King by Lev Grossman (The Magicians book 2). I mostly enjoyed this one. I felt there was a lot of character growth in certain characters and a lot of exploration of mental health and healing. The ending soured me a bit, but I think I understand why the author went that route.

I also read Macbeth by William Shakespeare. I mostly knew the story already from pop culture, but it was nice reading the full thing. I think this is one of the more enjoyable and approachable plays of his that I've read.

I'm now on the last Magicians book, The Magician's Land. So far I'm liking it quite a bit, but we'll see how he sticks the landing.

I finished The Laat Lifeboat by Hazel Gaynor. It's a fictionalized retelling about a British ship carrying evacuated children to Canada that was hit by a torpedo from a Nazi U boat. One lifeboat was not rescued for many days. I usually don't enjoy fictionalized retellings like this, but I actually really enjoyed this one. The author took the facts surrounding the lifeboat and populated it with entirely fictional characters, giving her more leeway to properly plot the story out and give depth without having to make up things about real people.

I just started Grendel by John Gardner, a retelling of Beowulf from the monster's point of view. Too early to say how I feel.

How are you liking The Well of Ascension on reread?

I finished Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. Overall a solid book with some good commentary on modern poverty, foster care, and the opioid crisis. The first half stuck too close to the plot points of David Copperfield, but thankfully it stood more on its own in the second half. The ending felt a bit rushed.

Now I've started Hex Education by Maureen Kilmer. If it wasn't such a short read, I would not be finishing this book. Almost every character is unlikeable. I was hoping for a campy witchy book where I want to hang out with the characters, but instead I got a suburban mom who married rich and can't stop humblebragging about it.
