It's just the German law.

Like... that's how it is. In Germany.

Magazine of the German association of computer scientists recently did an article on it and we provided this... commentary.

Are you telling me I unknowingly did a comic on something called "vampire load" without any according pun and thus robbed myself an opportunity to do some Dracula joke about sleep mode and ramming a piece of wood through something to finally get it to really turn off? Damn.

That you can't get or distribute or enable people to get applications that could enable people to commit cyber attacks.

Just sent the paragraph through deepl:

Any person who prepares to commit a criminal offense under § 202a or § 202b by

  1. producing, obtaining for oneself or another, selling, transferring to another, distributing, or otherwise making available passwords or other security codes that enable access to data (§ 202a(2)), or
  2. computer programs intended for the commission of such an offense,

shall be punished by imprisonment for up to two years or by a fine.

Emphasis mine.

Ha, that's actually awesome :D. Dang, maybe I even heard about that years ago, forgot about them and now thought I'd just have had a nice comic idea. Oh well, however the synapses fire, I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Guess with your link I won't do him any favour if I take this down as unoriginal, so I'll just leave it up and consider it free advertisement for him.

/edit Also, I don't think he came up with the idea of showing Frozen and Die Hard in the same cinema so you can enjoy a theater with your kid while avoiding Let It Go, so at least that part's an original idea ;). Yeah, that'd require headphones.

Yeah, not being a native English speaker maybe results in... language issues. This is just a translated comic, after all.

Then again, I don't see how this particular language oddity would reduce the funniness of the comic, so maybe I'll just pretend I didn't read your comment.

Towel Day!

Reply in thread

'Here, suck this,' said Roosta, offering Zaphod his towel. Zaphod stared at him as if he expected a cuckoo to leap out of his forehead on a small spring. 'It's soaked in nutrients,' explained Roosta. 'What are you, a messy eater or something?' said Zaphod. 'The yellow stripes are high in protein, the green ones have vitamin B and C complexes, the little pink flowers contain wheatgerm extract.' Zaphod took it and looked at it in amazement. 'What are the brown stains?' he asked. 'Bar-B-Q sauce,' said Roosta. 'For when I get sick of wheatgerm.' Zaphod sniffed it doubtfully. Even more doubtfully, he sucked a corner. He spat it out again. 'Ugh,' he stated. 'Yes,' said Roosta, 'when I've had to suck that end I usually have to suck the other end a bit too.' 'Why,' asked Zaphod suspiciously, 'what's in that?' 'Anti-depressants,' said Roosta. 'I've gone right off this towel, you know,' said Zaphod, handing it back.

So, as usual this might be a translation issue, but I wasn't aware that an attachment has a direction. The debugger would obviously feed its output to the llm in this scenario, so the two things are attached to each other in the sense of the word that I got from a dictionary. As the debugger gives a filename as well, feeding the files contents as well, asking for improvements and overwriting the original file would be trivial, so automating it should be easy enough. Attachment was meant here only in the sense of "well, they're connected and data goes from a to b".

Would such a setup make sense? Not really. But you know, that's why it's a four-panel-comic and not some overrated ai startup. Or maybe it is, it seems like making sense isn't really a requirement for tech startups anymore.

Popular Culture

Reply in thread

Oh, this was by no means meant to degrade the idea of picking up something from pop culture. It was meant to capture that weird situation or feeling when seemingly the whole world connects something you like to some particular item from popular culture that you don't know about. That's not supposed to say that those people are wrong in any way, but it does make it kind of hard or annoying to discuss that topic. Should you then dump your hobby to play the recorder instead? I mean, maybe, if you live in a four-panel-world that needs a punchline ;). Playing OOT would of course have been a solution as well, especially since Zelda games are time well spent, but wouldn't have been as funny.

Also leaving this here. https://youtu.be/79Y6Q47qjlw

I love it.
