World's largest open library calls for volunteers to scan and preserve physical books as AI companies buy, scan, and destroy them — Anna's Archive says ‘time is running out’ as ‘knowledge is permanent

Reply in thread

It's worse than that. I'm sure they're getting wet dreams about eradicating as many books as possible so that they can finally sell AI slop books at a premium price, claiming that will be "the last way to get something in [author] style!".

Ecunomics is a science. It is not hard science, and like all science, what you derive from it depends on the hypotheses you made.

True economist can work with unreal hypotheses and get wrong conclusions. The fact that it's not hard science allows a bench of idiots to decide they know better an come up with flat-earth level theories like trickle down economics.

"No precedent in American history!" NYT would have defended child labor.

Yes, but admittedly, the sector would plunge in terms of revenues and profit. What will be left is much smaller than what they have today.

One of the biggest and longest rip-off scheme in history would end quite abruptly.

Now from an economic standpoint, that's as much money available to consumers that was previously going almost straight to shareholders with a limited return. That could be huge!

Teen Boys Are Using Meta Glasses to Harass and Bully Girls at High Schools and Middle Schools

Reply in thread

Well… my daughter is authorized by her parents to use as much violence as she deems appropriate to anyone who would harass her.
But we all know that would get her expelled from the school for 1… or 3… or every day(s).

If you add to that from the comments above that kids with perv-glasses are from rich families, probably contributing significantly to whatever charity in the school, they may not get the justice they deserve.

So smash the glasses, ok. Make a show, and be sure everyone hears loud and clear "fucking pervert". Reputation can't be bought back easily.

US national debt exceeds $40 trillion for first time

Reply in thread

Right now you heavily subsidize his companies and all the profits go to shareholders.

If you nationalize, you can subsidize them just the same, but the profit can be used to reduce the debt.

Realistically, you wouldn't nationalize a car maker without creating a market distortion. But SpaceX is basically NASA at a higher cost which denial is covered by people repeating "private is more efficient".

US imposes sanctions on ICC president

Reply in thread

Unfortunately, most western countries are complicit of its undermining. After falsely pretending they care about what happens to ICC judges, they still ignore it.

How many leaders confirmed they would arrest Netanyahu if he was travelling through their territory? Yep. No spine anywhere.
