Italian and Bulgarian officials both sought to play down any Russian involvement in the incidents.

Now Ankara is attempting to impose new faits accomplis, once again disregarding every concept and interpretation, even expansive, of the Law of the Sea, since marine parks, when unilaterally defined by a state, cannot exceed the extent of the territorial waters. In the case of the two designated areas, Turkey exceeds its territorial waters, which means that, under the Law of the Sea, it should come to an arrangement with the neighboring state with which it shares international waters, to jointly agree on marine protected areas.

The Turkish president’s decree transforms international waters into a marine protected area, with Turkey being able to exercise special powers that entail conditions for the exercise of freedoms of the high seas, and in practice cuts off the sea between Limnos and Samothraki, while access to Kastellorizo by sea could even require compliance with conditions set by Turkey. Essentially, Ankara is attempting to alienate Kastellorizo from the rest of Greece. In the case of the Northeast Aegean, although international navigation is not affected, as the marine park leaves the mouth of the Dardanelles Strait open, it nevertheless imposes restrictions on communication between Greek islands and more specifically Limnos and Samothraki, even closing the Gulf of Saros.

Romania's energy strategy sets a target of 3 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2035. The government considers offshore wind an opportunity to diversify the electricity mix and strengthen energy security.

The World Bank's Offshore Wind Roadmap for Romania estimates the Black Sea has significant wind resources, with average speeds exceeding 7.5 metres per second and an overall technical potential of about 76 GW. Of this potential, approximately 22 GW could be developed using fixed foundations and 54 GW using floating technology.

The 3 GW target represents a moderate development scenario. An accelerated scenario could result in as much as 7 GW of offshore wind capacity, according to the ministry's supporting documents.

A key part of the strategy has been expanding the country's modern highway network and redesigning roads to meet higher safety standards. Greek drivers acknowledge that tougher enforcement has also played a role.

D.M.: Your colleague and accomplice, Edgar Morin, talks about the generalist and the specialist. Politics requires both: the generalist who knows next to nothing about a little of everything, and the specialist who knows everything about a single thing but not the rest. How is a good citizen made?

C.C.: This dilemma has been posed since Plato. Plato said that the philosophers, who are above the specialists, must rule. In Plato’s theory, they have a view of ev- erything. The other alternative was Athenian democracy. What were the Athenians up to? Indeed, something very interesting. It’s the Greeks who invented elections. It’s a historically attested fact. Perhaps they were wrong, but they invented elec- tions! Who was being elected in Athens? The magistrates weren’t being elected. The magistrates were being appointed by drawing lots or by rotation. For Aristotle, remember, a citizen is someone who is capable of governing and being governed. Everyone is capable of governing, so lots are drawn. Why? Because politics is not the business of specialists. There is no science of [26] politics. There is opinion, the doxa of the Greeks; there’s no episteme.9 I’d like to point out, moreover, that the idea that there aren’t specialists of politics and that all opinions are of equal worth is the only reasonable justification for the principle of the majority. Thus, for the Greeks, the people decide and the magistrates are chosen by drawing lots or appointed by rotation. There are specialized activities because the Athenians weren’t crazy. Indeed, they did rather significant things; they made the Parthenon, etc. For these specialized activities—the setting up of shipyards, the construction of temples, the waging of war—specialists are necessary. Therefore, such special- ists are elected. That’s what an election is, because “election” means election of the best. And what is the election of the best based on? Well, that’s where the education of the people comes in, since they are led to choose. A first election takes place, a mistake is made, it’s noticed, for example, that Pericles is a deplorable strategist; well, then, he is not re-elected, or he’s even dismissed. But the postulate accord- ing to which doxa, opinion, is equally shared, is of course an entirely theoretical postulate. For this postulate to have a bit of substance, doxa most be cultivated. And [27] how can a doxa concerning the government be cultivated? Well, through governing. So democracy—this is what’s important—is a matter of educating citizens, something that does not exist at all today.

While no definitive link to the Russian state has yet been established, there is evidence that Russian-speakers are behind some of the posts, according to Maristany de las Casas. For example, a Spanish-language post on X was found to contain a revealing clue: The post, which targeted candidates Lydia Hüskens and Andreas Silbersack of the Free Democratic Party (FDP), abbreviated their party's name as "SvDP," which would be the Russian version: Svobodnaya Demokraticheskaya Partiya.

The OSINT research group Gnida Project, which investigates Russian disinformation campaigns, has previously linked Matryoshka to Russian actors. According to its findings, the operation is technically and operationally connected to Storm-1516, a well-known unit reportedly controlled by Russia's military intelligence agency, the GRU, and which was also active in the lead-up to Germany's federal election in 2025.

This is a dangerous misstep by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and a proof how the European People's Party abuses its power against the interests of the people of Europe. Such manipulative misinterpretarion for political gain is poison for Europe.

Sánchez defended himself from accusations that Spain was failing to protect the EU’s external borders, and cited data showing that his country had recorded half as many illegal entries as Italy between 2021 and 2026. Former party chairman Ozgur Ozel announced on Friday that he and 90 lawmakers had resigned from the Republican People’s Party (CHP) to establish the New Party.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling Justice and Development Party, AKP, has the largest number of seats in parliament, with 277.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic rejected opposition criticism comparing him to Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying he did not understand why opponents used Putin’s name instead of comparing him to Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev.

The remark came after opposition politician Borko Stefanovic described Vucic as a “Putin from Temu,” a reference to the online marketplace known for inexpensive products. Vucic, who remains the de facto leader of the Serbian Progressive Party, responded by questioning the comparison.

“Why do they say Putin and not Rumen Radev?” Vucic said.

A French security source told AFP that the Russian disinformation network “Storm-1516” targeted former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe, one of the declared candidates for the French presidency, as part of an effort to interfere in France’s presidential election.

“We do not want the war to be carried into the Black Sea,” he said. “The targeting of ports, tankers and fishing boats in Black Sea and putting civilians' lives at risk cannot be justified.”

Speaking about the importance of navigation in the Black Sea, Fidan said: "Freedom of navigation and commercial security in the Black Sea are of vital importance. I discussed this with the Russian side during my visit to Moscow and also with my esteemed counterpart here. I will raise the issue again in the meetings I will hold throughout the day today. This is an important issue for us and for all Black Sea countries."

Fidan recalled that the UN had proposed that, while the war continues elsewhere, the parties remain committed to guarantees on energy security and freedom of navigation in the Black Sea to safeguard global grain security.

Fidan stressed that Türkiye's primary objective is to end the war, adding: "If that is not possible, then in several critical areas important for Ukraine, Russia and all countries, a war moratorium could be declared and those targets could be spared.”

"What are they? Black Sea security and energy security. Our alternative proposals on these issues remain on the table for the parties' consideration. The Ukrainian side shares a serious common understanding with us on this matter," he said.

It was never about corruption or the rule of law or liberty or the EU or whatever. The ruling Progressives used the same rhetoric before they returned to power in 2012 – anti-corruption demagogy and pledges to “preserve Kosovo”.

Students did get support for their platform about Kosovo, namely from representatives of Kosovo Serb associations and from none other than Vojislav Šešelj, Vučić’s former party boss, who was convicted for crimes against humanity before the ICTY.

Look, we all knew what was going on ever since the protests started. When a bunch of folks waved nationalist paraphernalia and blasted the music of “Belgrade Syndicate”, we understood that these were, in fact, far-right protestors who disliked Vučić for being too Western for their taste.

Those foreigners who did know about the student protesters being just another wave of demagogic nationalism, like Timothy Snyder, Rachel Maddow, and Florian Bieber, for example, supported them to fit their own narratives and content creation.

Drone footage showed vehicles attempting to cross the Palaiopyrgos Bridge, which has remained out of service since the storm caused widespread destruction across the region.

The bridge once linked coastal communities in the municipalities of Tempi and Agia, but its collapse has disrupted local travel.

The Cankaya Mayor said in a post on his social media profile that he is currently out of town but will be in Ankara in a few hours, according to CNN Turk. “I have informed all relevant authorities of this. I also provided a spare key to the teams who came to search my home, and I asked all my colleagues to cooperate with the security forces. I want all our neighbors to know that since we took office, we have managed this institution in the best possible way and that we have never done anything that would disappoint anyone who has placed their trust in us,” CNN Turk quoted the Mayor as saying.

Cankaya is the central and most prestigious district of the Turkish capital, home to government agencies and foreign embassies. With a population reaching 2 million people, including daily visitors, Cankaya is Ankara’s largest municipality and the country's third biggest after Esenyurt in Istanbul and Sahinbey in Gaziantep Province. It has been governed by Mayor Huseyin Can Guner of CHP since the local elections in 2024. In 2025, Cankaya was declared the most developed municipality by the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology.
