What's new?

Before peri, do you remember thinking..."what's the big deal about hot flashes?" Like so what, you get hot for a few minutes, how bad could that be?? Some poor folk get them every hour and lasting for 10 mins or more!

I hear ya...digestion, gut issues (should I risk a cup of coffee today?), monitoring foods, figuring out when to take what medication and then how to counteract the side effects of that. Some days it feels like trying to juggle balls, when I can barely hold onto one. Keep hanging on @getitoffmychestpleas....

All I can say at this time, is that we have joined the other 5,000+ subreddits in protest. We are here to provide continued support to our community, and we strongly believe that having a platform unaffected by corporate interests will serve everyone better in the long haul.

Lemmy may be rough around the edges now, but so was reddit in its early days for those of us who remember it. The apps and website will only get better as more and more people come on board!

My thoughts are that after July 1st, reddit will continue to degenerate, and become more like TikTok, etc. spamming us with ads and AI-generated content steering the narrative. In fact I think that's what happening now as reddit is forcibly removing mods and replacing them.

This platform is only going to grow and the numbers of new subscribers to lemmy over the last week has been incredible! Redditors are moving here en masse, so it's great to see.

If you haven't yet, have an explore around lemmy, you can see a list of subs/instances that have moved over and are growing!

My social battery is so depleted! (Rant)

I wonder if the more 'social' folk notice a distinct difference now in menopause. For me, I've always had a smaller social circle and preferred to be at home rather than out at different events, etc. I think the covid isolation contributed to being more of a homebody for a lot of people. Too much noise, too much stimulation, too much nonsense can really feel like an assault to our senses and our tolerance levels.

Well don't feel guilty for thinking those thoughts, I think we can all relate.

Testosterone 3 month update

We always hear about voice deepening, more facial hair, or hair loss, which I think scares people off, but have you noticed anything different with muscle mass (like maintaining what you have, or building more)? Or feeling more energized?

It's great to know it's helping with libido!

You bet! If you haven't yet, you can subscribe as follows:

If you are accessing this site from your desktop browser, the subscribe button is the very top right of the sidebar (big green button that says subscribe). If you are accessing it through the Jerboa app, select the bullet list icon (in the bottom left of the toolbar) and enter “menopause” into the search field. Select menopause from the results and press the big blue subscribe button at the top

Testosterone

I've heard very positive things about testosterone especially that it helps with muscle loss, fatigue and is very energizing, but there's also very little information on appropriate dosing for women. Too much can result in other unwanted symptoms (enlarged clitoris, deepening voice, etc, so you may have to start off slowly and ease into it.

As for MHT/HRT expense, it's promising to see some places provide free birth control (hormonal IUDs, etc) but MHT specifically for menopause probably won't happen. But the demographic is shifting...by 2030, it's estimated that 1.2 BILLION women will be in menopause, so maybe the medical professional will start taking us seriously!

Let us know how it goes with your T!

What wellness means for Black women

Excellent article. This especially...

Mainstream wellness was, to lean further into cliches, a Band-Aid on a bullet wound. I was actively pursuing better mental and physical health, a key piece of a wellness journey, but I wasn’t taking the time to establish what felt good to me. I was trying to fit into the trendiness of wellness, and I desperately wanted the freedom it proclaimed I could have if I bought enough stuff. Nowadays, I define wellness as, “Doing what feels good and aligns with what I believe I need in this moment.”

Menopause affects Black women differently as well..earlier, more hot flashes, and we need to bring awareness to this too.
